Default New Tower Trainer

I just received my Tower Hobbies .40 Trainer Mark ll ARF. I must say the plane was packaged extremely well. The quality looks excellent. I hope it flies as good as it looks. For $70 what can you ask for? Hope to have it together for the weekend.

chopper man,

Take lots of picture and document your build here so others can see how it goes together.

Chopper man,
Definitely let us know how it goes. If it's worth anything, I learned to fly on that same trainer 10 years ago. So I'm a tad bit partial to it anyway!!!!

Chopper,
I'm new to RC and learing on the Tower Trainer myself. I was drawn to the to the TT primarily because of the detailed instructions and apparent ease to put everything together. I did have help converting it to a tail dragger, however this is a very easy kit to adapt. IMHO it is a great ARF to get your feet wet in the hobby. While I didn't photo-journal my build, feel free to post here or PM me if you got any questions.

I've been out with my instructor several times, and he keeps remarking how good a flier this plane is. Docile when you need it to be, but capable of a few aerobatics. I put a .46 in mine - what engine did you go with?

All three of us Bell boys learned on the Tower Trainer. We started our addiction with two of them and both are still flying great. Ben the oldset son flew the covering off of his - really. The air frame is still in good shape although the covering has more clear tape on it than red and white. It is going to be our first covering job this winter. Best deal out there at $70.

Just from the look of it I couldn't agree more. I never did make it upstairs. Had to take care of my little one and get her to bed. I'm going upstairs shortly. I'm going to put th O.S Max .40LA. I heard go things for a inexpensive engine. My goal was to keep it cheap and still have a good trainer. I'll take some pictures as I go.
Thanks

I had this plane with a .46LA. I learned a lot with it and sold it to someone else who learned to fly with it.

Mine had the .40la in it and while it was plenty of power in the air, it sometimes had difficulty taking off in wet grass...I work at night so I fly in the morning, probably not a problem in dry grass...then I traded it off to a friend and he trashed it...Rog

Well I've got the wings together. Everything went well. I would post some pictures but there really isn't anything to post that wouldn't bore you. So far I'm missing 1 little piece for the rod connection on the aileron. No big deal. I was hoping to have it done for the weekend and try it out but I just found out that I have to work Saturday. I fly corporate so you never know when you're going to get the call.

Rog,I didn't trash it! The rudder control surface parted ways.I flew it with a OS 46FX. It was a great flying plane, pretty snappy and even would hover and knife edge.It is very repairable.

Considering the poor little plane was used by members of the Carolina 1/2A Crew [sm=spinnyeyes.gif], I'll be nice to both the previous and current owners and refrain from further comment - at least for now

Well I've just about completed the Tower trainer. Went together fairly easy. A few issues here and there, but all in all it was a good building ARF. Although I'm not sure why some people think that building a kit is so time comsuming. This ARF was no throw together. Anyway, I hope to fly it for the first time this weekend.

A kit takes weeks on average for a beginner and then looks like it too.

Best of luck this weekend and let us know how you do. Start charging batteries right now if you haven't already and don't rush the assy. If not done, don't fly.

Take care of the family first. They grow up too fast anyway.

I just maidened a Tower Trainer 40 (RTF Version) for a new flyer yesterday. This is the second person in the club that started with a Nexstar, and then after crashing, decided to get the Tower Trainer. He was ecstatic with the way it flew. Both flyers that switched to the TH Trainer from the Nexstar have been very glad they switched. It was easy to put together, only required a few clicks of trim to adjust, and handles so much better than the Nexstar. I'm not trying to shift this thread to Nexstar bashing. I have the first crashed Nexstar that I rebuilt as a demo plane (I'm an AMA Intro Pilot), and its OK. Its just not as well behaved as the Tower Trainer.

Glad to heard about the Tower Trainer. I'm looking forward to getting mine in the air.
You are right, they grow up so fast!! I'm hoping that my little girl will learn off of the Tower trainer as well.

Chopper, the Tower Trainer is what I learned on 11 years ago, she is sweetie. I wish I still had her on the days I don't feel like flying the turbine. Good luck!

Completely noob member here (this is actually my first post) ...

I just finished building this plane and am meeting my newfound instructor for the 1st time this weekend for its maiden flight.

Solid looking/feeling plane ... I'm actually going to break the engine in this evening (.46LA ) and am looking forward to getting hold of the sticks on this plane, especially after all the postive reviews in this thread.

Now... which kit to buld over the winter? hmmmm.... decisions decisions...

Our club is having a fly in this weekend. I'm hoping to hook up with a club menber to help me out with my Tower Trainer. Hopefully all will go well. Good luck with yours!
