What would be the best plane to get for a begginner?
And also if I get a JR transmitter will the buddy system be able to hook up to other name brand transmitters?

JR is unique in that the buddy box needs to have a charged battery pack as well as the transmitter whihc is a pain as it adds another battery that needs to be charged. Other top brands such as Futaba and Airtronics don't require the buddy box to have a battery pack. As far as I know only a JR buddy box or transmitter will work with another JR tranmitter. The best trainers are 40 size and have at least a 60" wing span. One of the best trainers around is the Sig LT40. You can buy it as a kit or an ARF (almost ready to fly). It has a 70" wing span which means it can land nice and slow and is easy to see what the plane is doing. A Hobbico Avistar is an advanced trainer that has a sturdy build and would be ok with a good instructor teaching you. Midwest makes a nice trainer called an Aero-star. Any of these will work as they all have a high wing with a flat bottom. Check out the Tower Hobbies site to see what the trainers look like. Get an instructer at a flying club to help you or the plane and your time in this new hobby will be short lived. Phone the closest hobby shop and ask them where the RC clubs are. It will save you to belong to a club, not cost you!![8D]

I learned on an alpha 40 rtf great little plane flies very nice. everyone at the club kept saying they fly better then the nexstars. when you buy this kit you get a training cord so you can use any other jr tx or any futaba tx with a ROUND plug

I agree with Fastsky. The LT-40 is a great trainer, very stable and easy to see...(even for an old guy). Be sure and read the reviews on the LT-40 - they speak for themselves. I have the JR radio and have seen a JR to Futaba buddy box cord. Maybe someone else will respond with the website/vendor where it's available.
Ever which trainer you choose, be sure and get flight instruction. I am a new member at a local club and have learned a tremendous amount by just chatting with the folks that have been doing this for a few years. There are some great people in this wonderful hobby.
Good luck.

If you're interested in building a LT-40 kit check out the build thread I did on this plane. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3439708/tm.htm]Pay It Forward build thread!! LT-40 build.[/link] This is a great flying trainer which is hard to beat.

If asked by a new flyer, I always recommend (in order) the Sig Kadet LT-40 (If you buy the kit version, consider reducing the dihedral by 1/2), the Hanger 9 Alpha Trainer, or the Tower 40 Trainer. IMHO, I steer people away from the Nexstar because your paying for things you don't need, and it doesn't behave as well as the three listed. There are a lot of people that learn on the Nexstar, but in side by side comparison, it loses.
The only advantage the Nexstar has is the guarantee. If you crash under the instruction of a club instructor at an AMA club field within 60 days of purchase, they will replace. So if you go with the nexstar, make sure you're going to get plenty of instruction within that 60 day window (not likely this time of year).

I am training right now with a Hobbico Avistar. It is a trainer that is good for learning, but it is also an acrabatic plane. It can do tricks easy. It can do tricks that most other trainer planes cannot do.

ive been in rc cars and have felt something was missing. im guessing its planes[&:]. well, ive been wanting to get a plane for sometime now. thinking about the tower trainer or the duraplane 40 trainer. but this plane came up which seems to have good reviews. the LT-40. but the problem is its cold and there is quite a bit of snow now up here in the north and the nearest instructor is probably withing a few hundred miles so im probably going to get a sim for the winter then toward thaw, get a trainer.

I trained on the NexStar and loved it... With the droops and wind brakes it few slow and was easy to control. After about 4 hours with a good instructor, I was able to solo with ease. After removing the droops and wind brakes it had a lot of spunk... I was impressed the durability of the landing gear and the ability to take some rough landings. I added flaps. I mixed the rudder and ailerons for turning.
I have flown several trainers and found the NexStar the easiest to fly.
