Hi everyone.
I have a stupid question about throttle setup on an airplane.
When you pull all the way back on the throttle should the engine
still be at low idle and then use the trim to shut it of completely, or should off shut down the engine regardless of trim setting.
I know this likely sounds stupid but I ran nitro boats for 15 years on exhast throttle(not exactely any low rpm--mid to full)and the whole idea of an engine idleing is quite new to me.
Thanks in advance Wade

You want to set it up so it idles steady at low throttle. Set your trim tab near the top and use the trim to kill the engine. You don't want the engine to die when you are in the air, but you might want to kill it after it lands. This can be done with the trim to completly close the throttle barrel. Your engine should have a barrel stop screw also, this is to prevent the barrel from closing off all air flow. You will have to adjust this if you want the barrel to cut off all the air flow.

Wjames,
Check and see if your radio has a kill switch. This way you don't have to keep changing your throttle trim. I have a Hitec Flash V, which has this feature.

Thank you KW_COUNTER and strato911
My rado is a Airtronics VG400 so I dont have a kill switch but I'll set it up to use the trim for kill.
BTW I did wire the radio for a 5th channel (on/off) switch, which I want to use for a flight stabilizer
Thanks again to everyone you peole are wonderful to this hobby.
