Well I tried to glue my canopy on using RC56 but wasnt coming out neat enough for me so I decided to clean it all up and start over. Well I used Acetone on the canopy to get rid of the stubborn glue...my canopy started to haze. I guess that was a bad idea. Any fix? I dont have time to order a new one before sunday...but the haze looks terrible. Please offer any suggestions you might have. ( Super Sportster)

Hi,
If you have some spare time and plastic polish such as Permatex you can polish out the hazing but I would tend to go with the paint suggestion, much quicker. Paint it on the inside with latex paint.
Cheers,
Colin

I built a 4*40 and wanted the canopy painted because I didn't want to add a pilot and didn't want to see an empty cockpit.
I found some spray paint for plastics at Lowes. I sprayed several light coats allowing about 30 minutes between each spray. I am very pleased. See for yourself.

are the acetone stains on the inside? if so you can try to stain the outside of the canopy with rit dye. I have been using that method since I read a post on here it works wonderful. the key is to keep your dye water above 120f and have a container big enough to have the canopy submerged. I haven’t had much luck with canopy’s staying on with the glues avalable,so always use a few screws with whatever glue I use and then make a trim piece out of the covering material to hide the screws.some plastics wont take the rit dye.i have had good luck with the ones i have stained.

The haze is on the outside. Although- the tinted canopy would look pretty nice! Do you use regular black? I might try that tonight. I like the dark canopy.....but having the 3rd dimension of being able to see through(tinted vs painted) really adds a little more in my opinion overjust painting it all black. Its nice....but just what i prefer.

i mix it usueally navy blue and black seems to be darker but still see through.i tried just the black and got something that kinda had a red tint in it in the light.try keep the water over 120 if you can and not over 140 i have warped them even in the forms over that.

In case you want to check into the solid painting like I did on my 4* canopy, here is a picture of the paint can as promised. Sorry for obscuring part of the label with paint. The nozzle broke and was lost so I borrowed another one from a different can and it didn't exactly fit...

Another interesting concept is tinting the canopy. Take a look at this thread and see if this is something you may like to do. It's easy and makes a very nice look on the plane.

SO i tried using the Pactra window tint spray paint. Its a great look but didnt come out so good. I think i rushed it and need to apply in light layers. I am going to order another canopy and try again.

Yes definitely take your time. As I mentioned, I sprayed a little at a time and let it dry for about 30 minutes. I don't recall how many coats I sprayed but I think it was close to 10.
