I am trying to get back into RC airplanes after not being able to for a while. I am 21, and in college. I have successfully flown two different trainers and have a Four Star 40 that has been ready to go for about 3 or 4 years now. What I wanted to know was what information anyone had about the two different clubs in Austin. What are the people like? Is there a younger crowd at either club? Any information about both clubs would be great.

They were easy to talk to and immediately asked me if I was out here to fly or just watching. I told them I was interested in flying and they took me right out on a trainer and buddy box. The other fields seemed like they were a little too good for the newbies. Anyway, take a trip and see what you prefer. What is good for one may not be good for you. Good luck with your search.

I'm a member of ARCA (near Manor) and have visited the south club (Hill Country Areomodelers). I would join whichever club was most geographically convenient for you.
The Austin Radio Control Assosiation (ARCA) flying field is right next to a trap and skeet range so noise is not so much of a problem. ARCA's monthly club meetings are on the last Thursday of the month at the flying field.
If you show up at the ARCA field on a Wednesday evening and someone is flying this electric plane, that would be me.

It kind of depends where in Austin you are. There are 4 clubs I can think of off the bat, GAMA north of Georgetown, ARCA which is east of the city, Hill Country which is in South austin, and a small club which fly's out of round rock. I belong to GAMA but I have flown at all of them at one time or another. Your not going to find alot of people your age at any of them but I think ARCA and The south Austin club probably have the most going on. If you have an AMA card, take your plane and go visit them, there all friendly.
