Everyone at my field lands, then taxi's back to their field box. I did this yesterday, like i always do, but for the first time and gave it alittle too much throttle and it ran right into my field box. luckily nothing broke on the box or the plane. Im just curious to see who else has done this. I usually like to stop a few feet in front, but that one time got a bit close. I was lucky that I dropped my trim all the way down, so the engine was already about to die, when i hit the box. But, it mad me feel stupid.

At our field we have a shutdown line on the taxiway. Engines are killed here and the plane rolled into the pits. This is done for safety reasons for not having planes taxing INTO the pits. Too many possibilities of having somebody get hurt if a plane were to get out of control.

We taxi back to our pit area but I was taught to taxi at an angle and not strait at the pit area itself, this is a safer approach.
I don't know of anyone at my club hitting their box.

We also have a shut down line painted on our taxiway. We can taxi out from the pits but NOT back in. We feel that we are more likely to make errors during the return/shutdown than during the departure phases. I have seen guys violate our rules when they were the only ones there and sure enough some of them would run into something or overspeed in the pit area.

i never hit mine, i always just bring it in about five feet, it's not like it's gonna make a difference if i have to walk five or two feet,

I usually taxi untill im like 5 feet away. I think i hit a dead patch of grass, so it rolled a bit farther than with normal grass. all i know is from now on, im gonna give myself alittle more room for error. The plane was barely moving when it hit, but still.

airlpane pointed at people BAD. airplane carried or pulled by personGOOD.
i got appointed safty nazi eerrrr i mean officer at our feild ,we keep the grass tall (unmowed) in front of the flight line and just tall enough in the pits to discourage taxiing. it works fairly well with the exception of some larger birds that can't be carried. no one can taxi into the pitts area for the obvious reasons. we had a few table hits and close calls before we put that rule in place though. the more people around the more necasary these rule become but BASIC SAFETY ALWAYS APPLIES

No one taxies their planes in when anyones or any other planes are around. If that was the case, then i know no one would taxi their planes in. My stuff was all alone and nobody or their plane was within 20 feet of my stuff.

If you hit your field box while taxi-ing into the field, wouldn't that tell you something? What if that was someone standing there and you hit his leg and sent him to the hospital? Doesn't it make sense to shut down at the flight line like most of the posters have said above?
Why people would put others in danger just to satisfy some need to taxi into the pits is beyond imagination. It's hazardous and dangerous.
We have one strict rule at out field that all planes are shut down at the flight line. Simple. No one gets hurt.
Safety is not something that needs a poll or should be voted on. It's common sense.

Like a lot of people have already stated, safety is our main goal at our field. We also have a kill zone about 20-25 feet from the pits. You walk the plane there and back.

My Box is usually outside the pit, because the rules state not to start your planes in them. I park my planes next to my field box and I always have full control of my aircraft at all times. ( Unless something goes wrong with the radio and etc.)
I taxi my plane as fast as I can walk, and no faster... that applies with the full size planes as well. So I have not bumped into anything so far, I try not to be careless because that's how accidents happen. And I don't want to loose my flying privilages because of my own stupidity.

CG, I agre with you 110% . At our airfield we have a taxiway straight out from the pits and then 2 angled taxiways to bring in your plane. You will see the white line on the taxi out lane that is the line where you shut down your plane when you taxi in. Here is what our runway looks like. http://www.hawksrc.org/ There is absolutely no reason to risk anyones safety because someone, in my opinion is too lazy to push, pull or carry their plane back. My thought is these planes as much as we check, check and re-check them things happen that are out of our control. Just like getting shot down or someone turns on their TX and on the same channel and that throttle is all the way up. That plane is going right at everyone in the pits, cars and by-standers. Not worth the risk. SAFETY FIRST always.
