OOOH! I had the SkyFly 1 and enjoyed it. I really wonder if number 2 is any better. I may just havew to get me one for some local park flying.

kevin. The venom plane is not worth buying if you are going to use the electronic components inside of it.

you can get micro servo's for $3, and a motor/esc/prop combo for $15 from hobby city.

I found a Sky Fly from the neighbor with an extra battery for only 50 bucks today. I told my dad and he went right over and bought it. He was wanting to fly a little but doesn't want to get a full trainer set up like I did. I can't wait to go try it out!

I don't see how the Skyfly 2 could be much better. The Skyfly is a great little plane, easy enough to fly but still entertaining, is capable of loops, etc. Also the 3CH standard type transmitter feels about like the typical 4CH radio less the ailerons feature.

I first started with a SkyFly and all though it was cheap in price it was also very cheap in quality and after 2 attempts I managed to get it airborne for about 7 secondes until the fishing wire that controlled the rudder came off and since there are no ailerons it simply spiraled into the pavement and totallydestroyed itself!

Yes the fishing line on this plane should be a crime. It shouldn't even be allowed
for safety reasons. For $5 you can install Du-Bro pushrods & they come with a
plastic sleeve covering the 2 metal pushrods. Another nice touch as previously
mentioned is to use the Du-Bro E-Z connectors. Then you at least have reliable
pushrods to control your elevator & rudder & w/the E-Z connectors you can make
very quick adustments.

I have never had any trouble with the lines personally.

Good for you Brian. I look at the fishing line, like fishing. Eventually
if you don't change your line, you'll lose fish. So for around $10, you
can install the push rods & connectors & never have to think or worry
about them. Won't have to replace 'em either.

i hve this plane it is very easy i had to replace the front landing gear because it brock on a hard landing[sm=75_75.gif]
someone told me to put packiging tape on the wing so it is stronger
this plane is very durable i flew mine into a tree flew to fast an the wing snaped an it crashes and it is still good i had to buy a new wing but u can buy almost every part of it so i hope like it i am hopefullt geting a 4 hannel soon

My nephew's SkyFly has suddenly decided that it doesn't want to respond to radio control once it gets about 100 yards away from him.
They have run several tests and the plane clearly responds fine if you keep it close to you, but as soon as you venture too high or too far out, the control surfaces immediately go to full throw (same way the plane sometimes acts if you put the battery in with the transmitter turned off).

He has tried the following -

New batteries in transmitter.
Swapping out receiver crystal with known good crystal and used a different transmitter.

He has crashed the plane a few times and banged it up a bit, but the control board doesn't show any obvious signs of damage.

Do you think the receiver antenna could possibly have a hidden break in it?

Just curious j.m. (I didn't buy the Venom P-51). But are you familiar with the brand?
Do you know if their components are decent quality.
Reason I ask is this... I went to hobby city site and they do indeed have very low prices.
My question though is whether or not a $15 brushless/esc/prop combo is going to last and perform like a brand name $100 brushless/esc/prop combo.
I usually look at this stuff as "you get what you pay for". Some of the really cheap stuff works fine. But there is usually a reason why one brushless motor is $10 an another is $70.

Like I said I don't know anything about Venom components...for all I know they may be cheap components disguised and priced as high-quality stuff.
But what caught my eye was that Tower Hobbies had the Esc and the motor available separately and the cost of those 2 items alone exceeded the cost of the whole plane.

My friend actually ordered this motor as per my recommendation, and it works WONDERFULLY!

The only thing is the prop was way off balance, but maybe it was a bad part. APC e props are like $3 any way. The esc works great, too.

Some servos aren't good at all, but all you have to do is read the user reviews. Most servos are very good though.

After learning to fly on the Skyfly and crashing it about a dozen times, I finally got good enough to fly it without being concerned about crashing it. I eventually upgraded to the Hobbico Nexstar and love it. I recently have upgraded to skyfly to the Dubro micro pushrod conversion and am amazed at how much more throw it has. I only spent $6 for the pushrod system. The hobbyshop did not have the ez-connectors so I just centered the elevator/rudder and cut the pushrod and made a 90 degree bend and it works fine. I highly recomment this upgrade for anyone who has the skyfly. I videotaped the process (which took less than 20 minutes) and am in the process of editing it to put on youtube. My next modification is to the rudder, which I will cut the top 1/4 to move with the rest of the rudder. I will keep everyone updated.

Interesting mod. Are you using the stock radio w/your Sky Fly?
I have a Sky Fly also. I'm just installing a brushless combo in
a Wing Dragon. Using my JR SX600 tx w/a RS600 rx in it. Looking
forward to more power, longer flight time, & even a quieter motor.
I do have a brushless combo around I could install on my Sky Fly
as well. Looks like the elec. components are more work to upgrade
on the Sky Fly though.

Yes I am using stock radio.
The only mods I have made are the control surface mods and the control linkage mods.

I don't plan on doing any other mods to the SkyFly because I have the Great Planes U-Can-Do 3d and a generic 4ch foam Cessna that I am playing with.

The problem with installing radio gear into the skyfly is that the plastic doesn't like epoxy. This is important because a "real" radio's haver separate servo's, receiver, and esc's. This means you will need to install a servo tray, and also an upper tray to hold the receiver and esc. Also, if you plan on using a lipo battery, you will need something other than the piece of foam in the nose of the plane to hold it in place. (as it will most likely be larger than the stock battery to get a sufficient amount of weight in the nose to get the CG right.

Actually I take that back.... I have been doing some work with PIC microcontrollers and I may use the SkyFly as a test for a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle).

I will let you know if I get anywhere with that project...
