i need a good sarter plane rtf and is gas or electric better for a starter plane

i see the list but the rtf are $200.00 and over are electric ones fairly ceaper cause im brand new never flown a rc plane in my life and would hate to cras and lose it

Check out the list you were given in the other thread. My recommendation would be nitro for 2 reasons. Inital costs are less and they have a larger "wind" envelope that they can fly comfortably in.

Electric costs just a bit more overall. Motors can be less, but take pretty expensive batteries. And chargers for them are pricey. But you never have to buy fuel, just the electricity and time to recharge the batteries.

Nitro is one name for glow fuel. Glow fuel is a mix of lube, alcohol and nitromethane. So we call it nitro sometimes. Heck, some call it gas. And guess what..... we have gasoline engines too. That run on gas.

Being a new flyer myself (just got my wings yesterday) I have been interested in this hobby for about 30 years...I'm only 33....But can now afford it.

It's a shop prepared booklet, but explains much of the basics and what you require for each hobby to get started. This website is a HUGE resource, but the same questions get asked day after day, and the Mod's put a great deal of effort into answering the same questions over and over....Use the search function....You'll find alot of similar posts, and it will show you that thousands of people have the same questions as you do, so you're not alone.


Anyway, for 50 bucks I am going to suggest that you won't get much, if any of a trainer. You can buy kits, ARF's and all the rest, but being realistic, you should expect to pay about 300$ at least.

You get what you pay for.

I bought a Carl Goldberg Eagle II, built it, covered it, powered it, joined MAAC and a club, flew with an instructor at my club and all the rest for probably close to 700 bucks when all was said and done. Now that I am there, I have my 2nd plane in the works.

Another suggestion I can make to you, is purchase some R/C magazines. If nothing else, it will make you more familiar with some of the terminology.

Yeah, and gas burning engines tend to cost more than nitro engines to purchase and go in larger planes.

you don't have to buy fuel but when you get into the bigger electrics, the batterys can get really expensive, and they don't last forever, and you probably want more than one

The first airplane I bought was called the yellow bee. I wouldnt suggest this as a starter plane but it got me hooked on the hobby. After that I bought Hobby-zones Super Cub. Its about $160 bucks and comes with everything. It is very durable and easy to fly. Hope this helps.

wow this could get interesting, the nexstar seem to be liked or hated. I myself just started fly the nexstar RTF, I find it a really good trainer, its very forgiving, and you will not get behind the aircraft. The RTF kit is good cause all you hve to do is put the fin on put the wings together charge the batterys and run a couple tanks through the engine to break it in. It also come with a simulator thaT you hook the radio into to get use to it(it REALLY HELPS). Just dont put the speed flap on and make sure the ATF is disconnected. My instructor told me to leave the droops on for now. Speaking of that, my sure you have an instructor. The plane is really good as a trainer im my opition.

I vote for the Hobbico Hobbistar 60. 71" wingspan. Wonderful flier, easy to set up. The RTF comes with a 6 channel Futaba radio.

the Nexstar and any of the other similar trainers on the market all generally work fine.very often its a matter of preference and convienience. hooking up with a local club would give you access to some good used equipment ( and assistance which you WILL need)baring that, some type of electric or power assist glider/2 channel is about all you are going to be looking at for limited funds.beware---some of the cheap electrics are very poor performers & a waste of money.

I also have a trainer plane. But, I bought mine ARF. I have the Nexstar (see my profile for pictures) I have no clue if it is available in RTF. Probably, who knows ? The Nexstar is a gas - I'm anxious to train and haven't seen how well it flys compared to an electric. But, if you belong to a local club and it has a instructor or members with plenty of knowledge on the topic ask them for their opinion. Almost all the people I know haved trained on the Nexstar. I hear the nextstar is a nice plane, just the AFS is a joke, also, it is really annoing because people say "it can't take wind", yet RCKEN said it can take wind... [&:], it can get a bit confusing, personally, I would go with nitro, all you have to do is bring it in for a landing, and refuel, and ya would be back in the air in like 5-10 mins, compared to wating 1/2 + for your battery to f i n i s h c h a [sm=eek.gif] [sm=sleeping.gif] you get the idea, also, nitro planes are generally heavier so they can take more wind which is another advantage[8D]
