clear back plate

Are we to assume this is for an engine? If so, what kind? And for what purpose? Do you want to be able to run the engine with this in place or just use it for a paperweight/display?
I don't know of any that are produced but depending on intended use you may be able to make one.

An engine that is running at 10.000 to 16.000 rpm , what do you expect to see at that speed? Just a blur. And when mounted 1/4 inch from a firewall, who is going to see in there? On a running engine i dont think it would be practicable. If my memory serves me right i think minflyer did a mobile view of an engine and posted it in here some time back . Maybe RcKen will remember it and dig it up for you .

You might be able to make one out of clear Lexan but I don't expect it would last very long. Stay away from ANY type of glass as it could be very dangerous when it shatters.

And BTW, here's that graphic I made of a running 4-stroke

ok but seeing what it looks like after maybe breaking in were it was exposed would be neat or if there was a camera that could capture that it would be awsome but instead of telling me about how i couldn't see it tell me if there is one

This might be feasable on a four stroke but highly doubtful on a two stroke engine. I have run a four stroke with a big hole in the backplate with no apparent problems just to see if it would run okay. It did.

You have to have good eyes to watch something spinning at 13,000 rpm and pick out much detail. ;-)
The insides look a lot like the propeller does, but will be covered in splashing oil and fuel.

Gene Hempel told me about making an engine out of clear plastic and running it (with an electric motor, I suppose) with smoke going through it, in front of a high speed camera. Gene wrote the CL speed column for Model Aviation for 14 years, but I don't recall ever reading about this experiment. Anyone know anything about it?
