I have and probably will continue to use both, however predomanately I use the term Remote Control even though since I still use an FM transmitter Radio Control is probably more accurate. I'm not sure if the new 2.4 GHz systems or the older PPM are concidered radio frequencies so I won't hazard to guess. I can see how Remote Control could be accurate in either case though.

I use the term Radio Control. We use radios to control our planes, and this is a subset of remote control. Control line is another form of remote control, however, we here generally speak of planes, cars, trucks, boats, gliders that are controlled with radios. And yes, PPM and 2.4 are radio technologies, as well as FM, AM and HAM.

I use the term "Radio" simple because it is more accurate.

"Remote Control" means "control from a distance". That means it can be connected by a wire, a laser beam, etc.

Technically, a control line airplane is "Remote Control"

Even your computer's cursor is remotely controlled by the mouse.

I say "radio control" for the same reasons Minnflyer enumerates. For some reason, "remote control" sounds more toy-like, and for me invokes memories of sitting next to the slot-car track, controller in hand, watching my car go 'round and 'round....and 'round.

Radio control sounds more high-tech. I can envision myself as a highly-skilled military technician sitting in front of a video screen inside a highly guarded and bulletproof bunker, getting ready to nuke Osama with a Predator on the other end of my joystick

Then I come out of my daydream, just in time to pull my Piper Cub out of its uncontrolled dive just before I plant it in the bushes.

Radio Control

If it was remote control there would be a direct or line of sight connection.

Remote control is what you flip channels on your TV with, radio control is how you steer your airplane.

"Radio" is more correct but I have no problem using either.

What does bother me is when someone says they can't program their "radio" when they should use "transmitter". Or some other such misuse of the term "radio". That said, It's not worth having a cow over either, just makes it harder to understand what they actually mean sometimes. Example: "I'm going to change the crystal in my radio, is this legal?" Answer varies depending upon which component he is changing the crystal in.

Remote control was what some people called control line planes back in the 50's.

Radio control has been just that in my 63 years

I usually just say "are-see". I'm not about to get my panties in a wad over which term is correct, they actually both are correct.

The army would probably call it "plane, remotely controlled, by radio signals"

Maybe we should call 2.4 GHz "microwave control"?

Maybe we should call 2.4 GHz "microwave control"?

Then we will have to call 72 Mhz "VHF control" Radars use microwave frequencys also yet "radar" is an acronymn for RAdio Detection And Ranging.

Not wanting to just argue, nor is it worth it to, but how do you come up with remote=a wire is attached? I choose to take the words for their less convoluded meanings. Remote Control = Control (operated, funtioned or otherwise used) Remote (at a distance, not here but there) I see no requirement for wires in the definition.
