Airtronics makes fine radio products. If this is your first radio, you will like it.

It is not a computer radio, as such, but does have some advanced functions, such as end point adjustments for the throttle, that are good to have for a basic system. It does not have model memory.

I have the RD6000 and the RD8000, both computer radios and really like them both, although they have more advanced features.

Not a terrible deal but for a few more dollars (American) you can get current technology
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXSFY3&P=SM and of course there are others too. You will quickly outgrow the 4 channel radio.

Yep, Bruce. That's a good deal on a fine radio. The 2.4 GHz is the way to go.

I had to check the exchange rate for the Canadian $ - it looks like we are pretty much even at this point. WIth that being the case, I don't think $200 for a 4 channel, non-computer radio is a very good buy.

You can generally get a 4 channel, entry level radio with 4 servos, either Futaba or JR Sport, for about $119. Each brand also has their entry level, 6 channel, computer radio with 4 servos for about $160. And the radio that Bruce linked to is even better for just a few $ more.

The going rate at Tower for this radio is $119.99 which is right in line with comparable products from JR Sport and Futaba. As CGRetired said, there are some features in this Airtronics radio that the others lack. Given the even exchange rate, I'd say that $200 is too much, but if you can get it from Tower, this looks like a good deal on an entry level radio.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXCZC2**&P=SM Here is what one costs new. Their new 2.4 GHz version is coming out in a couple of month for about the same price. You determine the value to you and how much hurry you are in.

Seb, the RD8000 is a fine radio. I have one and like it. But, as Bruce said, the technology is moving forward. I've all but retired my Airtronics in favor of the Spektrum DX7 system. It costs about twice as the entry level, but it's clearly twice the radio.

If you can wait, I would opt for what Bruce suggested and opt for one of the new 2.4 Gig systems.

But, if you can't wait, and really want that radio, I can tell you that the RD8000 IS a fine radio, and you won't be disappointed with it... until you find that you could have bought a 2.4 Gig system for about the same money.

I agree with what Bruce and CGR are telling you. Why buy used, old technology when you can get brand new, NEW technology?

Take another look at this one

I have one and just love it! (And it's a computer radio)

You just cannot fault any of the new 2.4 Gig systems. They are all fine systems and work great. There is an awful lot of brand loyalty in this hobby.. some even won't talk to a person that does not own a Futaba. However, I feel that a person should get what fits the need, not based on loyalty, but, again, on what you need.

Minnflyer hits it right on the nose. That's a fine system. I just happen to have the Spektrum DX7 because they were the first out with that technology. If it were Futaba, I'd own one, and the same goes for JR, Airtronics, Hitec, or any of the others around. I even had a Polk for a while, but I didn't like it that much.

Do what you must, but really consider the alternatives and what's available. I happen to like the 20 model memory of the DX7 and have so far, converted most of my RC aircraft over to it from the Airtronics systems.
