In my opinion, the only engine that should go into a Cub is a 4 stroke. Anything else would be just wrong. Now as far as size I'd go with a 70 size.
OS, Saito or even the trusty ol' Magnum 70RFS would work. Swing a wooden 12x6 prop and you'll be golden.

We had a little Air Corps here of GB Cubs - six of them, all built by the same builder, all clipped wings, all with OS 91 Surpass engines. I believe the 70 is a better match, but the 91 will really wake 'em up!
I built one as a camera plane - full length wing, OS 61SF two stroke. Two pound 8MM camcorder in the cabin, looking thru the flat glass windshield I used. Looked like you were sitting in the pilots seat.
An OS 70 (or copy) or Saito 72 would be my choice.

The Ringed has a piston ring and the ABC doesn't.
Ringed is $15 cheaper.
The ringed has 1.75 BHP at 16,500 rpm's and should be ran at lower RPM's
The ABC has 1.85 BHP at 16,000 rpm's and should be run more on the lean side.

If you want my honest opinion the ringed one will splatter more oil on your plane than the ABC will. I have both and they are both reliable engines especially for the low cost. And yes, the 61 would be the choice if you plan to put floats on it later.

One other thing about 4 strokes. After 5 flights I only had to use 1 paper towel to clean the oil off my plane and that was mainly for the bugs that were on it!
2 strokes leave one oily mess, thats for sure!

Go with what ya want but if you open up that 61 full bore on that cub, look for the wing to fly off or lots of flutter on the ailerons. Of course you can always cut back on the throttle once airborne and plenty of speed for takeoffs. You open up that 61 on takeoff and it'll be going so fast it'll be airborne before it even has a chance to go right or left on you down the runway! About 30 feet and it's airborne at full throttle! lol
That plane wasen't meant for speed. My OS 46 AX i have on my current cub has about all the speed I want without losing the wing.

I flew mine with a SuperTigre GS 40 for awhile . It actually pulled the cub around pretty good with a 11x5 prop. I then installed a Magnum .52 4c with a 12x6. It also pulled the Cub pretty good . But then again , it does`nt take much engine to fly a Cub.
The .70 4c is a perfect fit for this Cub , but an OS .55 would be a good match for it as far as 2 strokes .
IMHO, I think the OS .55 and .75ax have more mid-range power other 2 strokes . I`ve only flown the .55 , and it had a pretty torquie mid range for a 2 stroke.

Seb23 - although many pilots earned their wings in full-scale Cubs, the models really aren't primary trainers. I'd recommend getting http://www3.omnimodels.com/cgi-bin/w...I=TOWA1130&P=0 to start with and learn to fly while you are building the Cub. The radio and engine can move right from the trainer to the Cub when you are ready, and you have a much better chance of learning to fly and staying with this wonderful hobby. Use coupon number 44W36 and you'll save $10 on the plane. It'll be the best (and smartest) $109.99 you'll spend in this hobby.
