Default new spectrum

Hello I have just ordered my DX7 and have a few questions.

I have a 4.8V Ni-MH 1500mAH battery with universal plug, so will the work well with the AR7000

I have standard Futaba S3003 servos what do I need to do to make these work with the spectrum receivers

Lastly I believe I have herd that the TX battery is week and needs to be replaced what will work

Thanks

Your servos and battery should fit. I don't know about the tx battery.

The servos will work but you need to shave off the tab from the servo plug first.

You can easily replace the transmitter battery with a higher capacity Ni-mh or Ni-cad battery.

1) Any 4.8V battery with a compatible plug will work with that RX
2) You don't need to do anything to those servos. Just plug them in and use them
3) That TX battery will meet all of your needs for a long time. The people complaining about it are ones who are experienced enough to get long flights and many of them per day. There is a fix for the DX6's to replace the TX voltage regulator with a more efficient switching regulator, but that voids the warranty on the TX.
As long as you charge the battery before you go out to fly, your inexperience will be the limiting factor on your flight times.

I just realized that he has futaba servos and yes he will have to shave off the tab that is only compatable with futaba recievers. Also just curious what his inexperience has to do with his flight times. Just wondering, not saying your wrong

He may or may not be experienced. The point is that inexperienced pilots will tend to over control the plane, trying to correct for everything the plane may do in the air. Experienced pilots tend to trim immediately and correctly, then let the plane fly without forever moving the sticks trying to correct all the time. This over use of the sticks uses up RX battery capacity faster than if the pilot uses the sticks less.

I've been using 5 cell 1200 mah NiMH's for my receivers. In my bigger planes, the expensive ones, I use two batteries.

Just get a razor and shave it off. The first pic is with and and the second is without.

Hope this helps!,

Look at the diagram I attached above. It shows the Futuba connector with the tab on it.

Ken: You might want to update your picture. The new Airtroincs servos (well, later versions of the the Z servos anyway) have a blue signal wire.

Dick,
Yeah, I know that the new Airtronics have "Z" connectors on them. They are the same as JR standard connectors. I do need to get this diagram updated!!!

Your diagrams are great Rcken. I save them all to a folder in my pictures for future reference.

Snacker,
I do need to give credit where credit is due. A lot of the graphics that I use are from Minnflyer as well as my own. We have shared our graphics libraries with each other so that we can both posts answers to questions in case one of us isn't around.

But I am glad that we could help you out.

I know there was a thread about that but in still not sure. My trainer doesn’t have a cowl so I don’t think it is necessary.

It's ALWAYS necessary. As a safety concern you MUST be able to kill the engine at any time. On the bench, taxiing or in flight. This is also a requirement by AMA for some planes such as turbines (jets).

Check out this site for a lot of DX7 stuff: http://www.rcaerobats.net/Spektrum/dx_7_main_page.htm

I bought a Spectrum DX 7 last year when they were first announced. It came with a 1500 mah NMH batt. That will last a long time in the transmitter.
The Horizon Web site still advertises :

Specs
# of Channels:7
Receiver:AR7000
Programming Features:Aircraft and Heli
Model Memory:20 Model Memory

Transmitter (Tx) Battery Type:1500mAh Ni-MH

They were sending a chunk of crap for a wall-wart charger. Maybe that has changed.

You can make most any market servos work just like all radios. Those old Airtronic systems had the black and red wires reversed. Easy to remove the pins and cross them over. Black to black and red to red or whatever color is doing the black and red jobs. Not hard to guess!! It works. "Xacto technology" can easily provide for the plugs to fit where ever plugs go.

Best of Luck

Hello everyone just ending up this thread

So I got my DX7 today and set it up perfectly. My servos work and everything is in check. Lastly the kill switch. Spectrum made it extremely easy with there programming with up two 6 mixes it was a simple as putting throttle with the flap switch and trimming the carb to completely close.

Thanks all for the advice and finally it is demanded to put the antenna sideways or not.

Demanded? No.

Best? Yes. Stronger signal to the plane.
