Default just got my first plane!!!

after reading a lot of threads and talking to people I decided to buy my first plane. I went with the hobbyzone Super Cub RTF. the guys at the hobby shop swear by it and for the price I thought it would be a good plane to cut my teeth on. I'm pretty stoked right now!!! can't wait for the first flight!!! any advise from anyone would be appreciated!!!

Hi, I would advise you to make sure you have a person teach you how to fly this plane at a club field near you. This is a great sport but you have to learn the basics, crashing your first plane by your self may turn you away from this good hobby. Dan

hi sportrider fz6

see if you can get someone to help you get the super cub into the air for the first time. if you dont know how to stear the cub, all you need to do is use a small amount of rudder to bank the plane and as you move the rudder move the elivator to controle the speed of the turn if you got a dvd in the pack with your plane make sure you watch it.

good luck and dont give up.

Wait for a Very Calm day to fly. Keep it away from the water.

Or jump on a sim for awhile, I do advise getting someone to help you as well. My first flights were with an aerobird 3, with no help at all and 10 min. later with no crashes I was doing basic aerobatics. Just take your time and DONT get discouraged if something goes wrong. Enjoy your new bird and have fun!!!

well I got a few flights under my belt now!!! I don't know if anyone else with the Super Cub with the ACT has had this problem but the first attempt at take off ended kinda rough. I taxied OK, there was a light breeze I was headed into the wind. I throttled up and as the speed came up I eased back on the elevator and up she went till I was 10 feet off the ground it started to roll to the left and as I tried to correct the motor cut out and it basically stalled. the climb rate wasn't very steep if the motor hadn't stopped it would have been fine. unfortunately it nosed in and broke the prop. good thing it comes with a spare! after switching props I tried again at a shallower climb rate and it took off just fine after a few minutes of flight I wanted to try a landing, so I made a large circle ending it lined up with the road I'm using as a runway my approach was a little off so I made another pass to line up a little better although I was about 60 feet in the air where I wanted to initially touch down. I went ahead and brought her in I was a little off and even though I landed on the street before it came to a stop it rolled off the road into the desert, but nothing was hurt. after checking everything over I wanted to take off again and just as the plane was lifting the motor cut out again. I tried again and the same thing happened. I was thinking it might have something to do with the ACT so I switched it off on the TX and the plane took off just fine. I did a couple touch and goes and a few take offs and landings before I noticed the battery starting to get weak so I brought it in for a landing and took it home. over all I'm really impressed with the plane I had it up over approx 300 ft did a few loops and a stall with recovery just feeling it out. I don't really like the ACT feature in flight it limits the control of the plane and I think thats what cost me the prop on my first takeoff. I know that my Helli experience helped with directional orientation but I found this really relaxing in a fun way. has anyone else had any issues with the ACT feature?

If it's not 100% necessary don't use the ACT, sounds like you kinda got the hang of it. I'm pretty sure that you can keep it off until you get in trouble, then you can turn it on and it will correct the plane (but I may be wrong). Once you feel that you don't need it at all you can remove the system all together and save some weight.

On your first flight, you should check that everything is in a proper manner. Before you'r first flight, here is what you do:
1. Range test it.
2. Check all clevises that they are properly placed on the control horn.
3. Tighten all loose screws, nuts, and bolts.
4. Check that the propeller nut is tight.
5. fully charge the battery.
6. Read all flying instructions.
7. fly on days with calm winds( The best time to fly is early in the morning because there is not a lot of wind).
8. Wear a hat and sunglasses.
9. use little stick movement when you are flying.
10. Fly safe, and have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I flew four batterys today, no crashes. I'm not sure how high up it climbed but it was so small I could hardly see it. I did a nose over (not sure the correct term) and flew it inverted for a while then just pulled up on the elevator and looped out of it. it was really awesome!!! hopefully the weather holds out and I'll get a few flights in tomorrow.
