Default Tower Shipping!

So, I ordered my Tower Trainer Arf Tuesday night. I chose ground because, if it was shipped weds or thurs, I would get it by Friday. It didn't ship Weds. Finally, it shipped today, but when I clicked the tracking, it was unable to find it. At 12am I clicked it again. It said :

Billing Information Received

Great! So, now I don't think I'll have it for the weekend. Thanks for the slow shipping tower. On another note, my shipping weight says 30lbs. My last package, which contained a lot more, was billed at 15. Maybe they inadvertantly messed up my order? Am I getting more stuff? Maybe they're sending me two . . . or . . who knows. I'm being wishful. Anyway. Dumb post. apologies. Anyone ever have problems with tower? They've been great so far for me.

If you ordered Tuesday night then it probably shipped Wed, usually they are a day late in telling you it shipped. The tracking number is the same way, won't post until sometime today. I'll bet you get it Friday.

A couple weeks ago I ordered something from tower on a Wednesday, I had it on friday (2 days). Last Saturday I ordered something and It isnt supposed to get here until the 25th (10 days). The only real difference is the 2 day ship came from Illinois and the 10 day ship is coming from Nevada. The only thing that bothered me was that normally with small shipments like I order it is packed and shipped either the same day or the next business day. They must not have worked on St patricks day because it didnt get shipped until tuesday.

I guess my point is that shipping times vary, but they are pretty good at getting it delivered in the time it says it will be delivered. I know how frustrating it is to expect something for the weekend and not have it. I have to go through 2 weekends to get the parts I need.

If you wanted it for the weekend, you should have ordered it earlier. Or, Gawd forbid, supported your LHS by buying it from them.

If you read the final page when you place your order it says it takes up to 2 days to process and ship your order so if you order on tuesday it might not even go out til thursday, so i agree if you wanted it for the weekend you should have ordered last friday. I live in canada and my tower orders have varied from 7 - 30 days, you guys got it good.

I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't want to sound argumentative.

The other thing I was thinking, was that getting an ARF in the mail on Friday, and getting it into the air on Saturday is a bit of a rush. I know that for me, if I tried to rush something like this, I would end up with a dumb mistake and a broken plane. I haven't put together any ARFs, but I know guys who take a lot longer than a day to get them in the air.

I do hope you get your plane on time, and that you have success getting it put together quickly.

Good luck.

Very good point, take your time building your ARF. Reinforce your fire wall with epoxy, fuel proof your fire wall and inside your fuselage, use your battery to set your CG, all this takes time if you want a good fly-er. Also, I've never have a problem with Tower and there shipping, I guess I'm a lucky one.

PA BEN: Port Angeles, eh? I have a very good friend and former Commanding Officer that retired in PA. His name is Mike Stenger. He retired after his tour as the CO of the Coast Guard Port Angeles Air Station. Do you know him by any chance? (aviation community is pretty tight knit especially in a community such as PA).

I would have ordered it earlier, but at the time I didn't know that I needed a new plane. At this point I'm hoping that I don't get it for this weekend, anyway. It's my last semester in school, and I have some particularly worthless but demanding courses that I need to catch up in. Namely, courses titled "Hume, Darwin, Marx and Freud," and the "Philosophy of Death."

CG mentioned that he knows a retired C.O. I am thinking about joining the Navy and trying to get in as a Naval Flight Officer.

Also, thanks for slowing me down with the build time. You're right, I really need to take my time. Thanks

Let's see if I got this right. You ordered on Tuesday night and in the wee hours of Thursday, when you can see that the shipment has been boxed up and scheduled for shipping, you're already complaining about slow shipping? Within 24 hours, they've got your order ready to go and you're still not happy? Is there something wrong with this picture? Patience, it'll get there. As others have said, if you wanted it for the weekend, ordering earlier would have been a good idea. The delivery date date will firm up sometime today and the odds are good that it'll be there by tomorrow.

I've gotten 3 orders from Tower in the past 2 weeks; all have been here sooner than expected. Mine had all said 30.x lbs as well - they charge a flat shipping rate, which probably the rate for shipping 30lbs with UPS.

And yes, the UPS tracking info comes a day after it has been shipped.

Ordering Tuesday night means the order goes in Wednesday. You only gave the ordering process, packaging process, and delivery 2 days; that's not a lot of time.

It's always hard when you're waiting on new toys to arrive in the mail. If I order from Tower on Wednesday by 1200 local I'll usually get whatever by the following tuesday if sent UPS regular ground. If sent by USPS ( Tower "parts express") it usually takes a couple more days. Whoda thunk it!!! Even if I don't have a plane to fly, I like to go hang out at the field and watch the veteran pilots and help out in the pits. There is a lot of knowledge to be gained even when you're not on the sticks.

Have fun
Rob

I agree, and I get antsy too, but have to remember what's really going on- buying something (fragile) from some far-away state, having it safely packed, and having it delivered to my doorstep, all for only $9.00; not a bad service.

Flight Sim's always a good use of time =)

Yeah, I'm an impatient maniac. When I ordered my Avistar, I got next day, which was more than dumb, because I couldn't even fly that weekend. I just get bored and maniacal. And you're right, 9 bucks for a very large package. Great deal.

Yay Tower.
See, worried for nothing.
I order from Tower regularly and the longest it has ever taken is 3 business days and often only 2.
Yes I do buy alot from the LHS also but the closest one is 1 hour away so they don't get all my business.

I would love to buy more often from my LHS, but I can't be paying 9 bucks for an O.S. 8 plug, and 4 bucks for 6 inches of medium fuel tubing. Their plane prices are right on, however. I'm going to buy the Parkzone P51 from them.

If you do get in Navy Flight school then courses titled "Hume, Darwin, Marx and Freud," and the "Philosophy of Death" will seem easy. Get ready for a LOT of real studying. Studying that your LIFE will depend on.

Woah, Woah. Philosophy IS NOT an easy discipline. Upper-level analytic philosophy courses are very difficult. Not to mention, we take logic as philosophy majors, which, at the intermediate and advanced levels is no easy endeavor. Analytic philosophy is, in fact, very mathematical. It requires the same kind of logical thinking that one uses in math. Going from analytic philosophy to calculus and beyond was an easy transition. There is an answer for everything in math(exceptions , of course). In philosophy, we're lucky to devise something solid once every 20 years. It's abstract thinking at every level. So, I'd be more than happy to go to flight school and have some one feed me facts and formulas. At least I know that x yields y at t instead of considering "if x is not born of free will, then x cannot have free will." After studying philosophy for 5 years, anything that they could throw at me in flight school would not be intimidating. Philosophy is a gym.

My LHS tried to sell me engines that he had mounted on his planes. He said he paid $70 for Super Tigre .45, and would give it to me for $60. He also said he had to heat it with a torch and put some different kind of motor oil in it just to get it to start the first few times. Also tried to sell me an OS 46AX for $100 that was also used. I didn't find that very professional, nor to be a good deal.

I think that's the only place within 100mins of here, too =( The only other store has only the Nexstar select package, and has to order everything else.

The shipping says 30lbs because it's a large box. It's called DIMENSIONAL weight.

Any box over a certain size automatically gets charged at 30lbs because it's long and bulky. Takes up a lot of room in the truck. It might not weigh 10 pounds, but because it's probably a 48" long or even 55" long box-- it gets tagged as "over 30lbs" due to box size.

I love Tower. They are my favorite place to shop for general hobby needs. They don't have much for giant scale gasoline planes, but for sport flying--they got it all.

When I want it fast, I pick Priority Mail. They usually pack it up and get it out the door within 18hrs. If you order early in the morning--like 6am--it will sometimes go out that same day when the UPS guy picks up around 4pm at Towers warehouse.

I always have a coupon for $20 or $50 off a purchase. I hit the coupon and then take the fast shipping. Costs me the same money--but I get it in 2 or 3 days.

I have not ordered much from Tower so I cannot comment one way or the other but getting two of what you ordered.... this summer I orderd some rock sliders for my Xterra. They weigh about 100 pounds and cost about $500. Like you I watched for the tracking numbers and tracked it from Texas to my home in Oregon and I was excited when they got delivered, only to have two laters another set arrive that I did not order or pay for.
