She's looking a little naked, but she's basically all there now. I'm finding that the covering is taking quite some time, but it does look good when it's finished! Latest estimate for first flight is some time toward the end of May.

Hi Mindwarp
I just finished my LT-40. I just want to share that the most valuable building tool I have is a small thermometer to measure the actual temp. of the irons when covering. Those dials on the irons are not accurate at all. I am new to this but I bet that most of the problems people have with covering stems from temps being too hot and the covering starting to shrink before it gets stuck down good. GOOD LUCK!

Totally agree with the thermometer. I got one from the local hobby shop before I started covering, 'cos I'm a sceptical little bugger when it comes to things like built-in thermostats
As it happens, the iron I have (Coverite 21st Century Covering Iron) seems to hold the dialled in temperature really well! As far as I can tell from the tiny dial, it's about +/- 5f from the dialled in temperature.
The one thing that makes me really nervous about the covering process is using a heat gun to shrink the covering when the edges are tacked down. I'm always more than a little concerned that I'm going to accidentally melt a hole through the covering! So far, so good though.
Can't wait for the day that I actually get to take her up.
Cheers,
Neil.

I didn't use a heat gun at all on mine. Try to shrink it with the iron at the lowest temp recommended (for shrinking) by the covering mfg. There are only 2 very small wrinkles that I couldn't get out (wing tips) with the iron and they are so small I'm not worried about them.
