I hope this has not been asked.
I am looking for a second plane and looking for a 40 size low wing (really would like a low wing). I think a little dehedral, and a semi symetrical wing would help keep it tame but still fly inverted better than my Superstar. I dont fly inverted too much but I would like to do more of it.
The Space walker is my favorite on my G3 sim. Its slow and tame when I want it to be. I plan to put a .46OS AX on it. Although I have seen the magnum .46 getting it at the feild in a kids LA racer.
I hope someone has owned one and thinks it is a good step up plane. The price is right and I think an ARF would be better than a kit. I dont want to take a month to build a kit.
Thanks
Traski!!!!

The Seagull Spacewalker II is a terrific choice for a second plane/first low wing plane. The O.S. Max .46 AX would be a great match for it, too.
Good luck and good shopping!

I had a Thunder Tiger Pro .46 in mine. The OS 46AX will be a good match although you may have to make some minor adjustments due to the squared off muffler, a stock 2 stroke muffler fits mostly inside the cowl on that airplane.
I really enjoyed mine until I dumb thumbed it in last year.
Good choice.

I disagree.
I reviewed the Spacewalker II and while it's a nice-flying plane, it has a nasty pull to the left. You can offset the engine to correct this.
But if you really want a nice slow-and-stable flier, look into the Goldberg Tiger II

I think I read your reveiw of the plane (space walker). I thought the left pull thing was just a shim under the motor mount to cure.
The space walker on the sim pulls left under take off.

Tail heavy is just an invitation to put a bigger motor on the plane!
I have a Tiger 2 and it's a wonderful flying aircraft that would also be a terrific second aircraft. I think the smaller Tiger is less prone to coming out tail heavy compared to its .60 and 1.20-sized counterparts.
I have a blog entry here on RC Universe about taking my Tiger 2 out and just flying touch-and-goes for three full tanks of fuel just for the fun of it. I'm flying pattern ships and 3D stuff more and more, but I'm preparing to get my Tiger 2 restored to pristine flying status with fresh covering, a new canopy, and some minor repairs. It's such a pleasant plane to fly that I hope to have it for many years to come.
That having been said, I still think your original choice of a Seagull Spacewalker II is a good choice. Just be sure to let MinnFlyer know how you set yours up so he can go back and fix his!

LOL!!! Thanks. Its really hard to decide. I really do love the Spacewalker looks and like I said I fly it on my sim 90% of the time.
But there are so many choices of nice planes to buy.

Yup, boy does it EVER!
I flew mine with an O.S. AX .46 ( even this is too little of an engine for this plane, the .55 might have been just right ).
I did shim my engine to add about 2 degrees of right thrust, but this did not help during run-up at takeoff.
I didn't want to add more least it look strange in the air.
Once it was up, it's a great flyer.
Landings are quite gentle and the plane otherwise tracks well.
It's only at takeoff and throttle up that the left yaw tendancy manifest so hard... and it's nasty. Thus far no other plane I've had, has done it this badly. ... and yes it tracked straight ( and I tried with a bit of right movement too ), the wheels were toed in, etc.
Leveling the plane a bit with a longer tail wheel helped once it started picking up speed.
I would NOT recommend this as a second plane because of all of this.
Consider something like a Pulse XT which tracks straight during run up.

Damn I really wanted that plane but now have been talked out of it. I dont want to put it in the fence on take off.
I do not want to spend more than $120 for an ARF. What other choices do I have? The Tiger 2 and Pulse XT are nice planes. I do not want to spend that kind of $$ to put into the dirt. I would rather keep it cheap to start.
I do intend to put this plane through the wringer. I am bored stiff with my Superstar 40. It has been a good trainer but its a pig when it come to doing anything remotely fun.
I am now thinking about a Raider Mach 1 (low wing) any negitives to that? After I mastering the low wing I may buy the Spacewalker anyway......I like it! I seen it on You tube and did not see the left turn on take off going on. Maybe the piliot was really good.

You learn to adjust during runup for the left yaw.
A skilled pilot would make it look like the plane tracked straight...
But even this now THIS "experienced" pilot has managed to put it into the fence a couple of times.
There are .40 sized planes to be had in that price range. But by the time you are through you will of course end up spending a bit more, even if it's in fittings, etc.
Consider say A GP SuperSporster.

Gee Thanks for all the links too. I do like the Dart alot but thought the fully symmetrical low wing would be rough for the first time. Does the Dart flyy good at low speed?
#15

I doubt it would be a problem for you.
Just set things as per the recommended throws and then set your TX for low rates.
It's not the symmetry of the wings, but rather how the plane handles in low speed flight.
The Dart is fine in this regard. It's almost a floater.

One nice alternative that is priced right is the Phoenix Dolphin .46 ARF available from Tower Hobbies:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLGM8&P=ML
It's a fairly shameless copy of Sig's Four Star 40 ARF, but significantly less expensive.
The previously mentioned Sky Raider Mach II from http://www.airborne-models.com is one of several very good low wing sport planes by The World Models that would make a great second aircraft. Check out the Super Sports 40, Super Sports 40S, Super Stunts 40, and LA Racer 40 are all excellent choices for an inexpensive second plane.
Hobby People still has a few of the Sportsman Aviation Sport Stik .40 ARFs available at $89.99. This would be a terrific second airplane and a lot of fun to fly. RCU has a great review with video of the Sport Stick .40 ARF available here:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=767
You won't have any trouble finding a great second airplane, just trouble making up your mind.
Good luck and good shopping!

I wound up ordering the Dolphin by Phoenix Models. After all the ratings I read on tis site the Dolphin won out. There was only one guy who didn't seem happy with his. It had a warped aileron.
But there were no complaints on flying. I guess the kit has a few wooden push rods. I think I will use something more modern like nylon tube and steel rods. I still plan to use the OS .46 AX.
Thanks again for all your help.
I still want plan to buy the Spacewalker next. Maybe put a 4 stroke on it.

Thanks for the tip.
I am looking forward to building it. My Superstar was already built when I got it. It was a RTF when the first guy built it (but never did fly ity). I have some experiance with repair work already...LOL! Rough landing!

I can't wait. I am 46 and I feel like a kid at Christmas!!! I went to the hobby store (and Home Depot) and got all the building supplies needed. I have all the tools. The radio will be here Wednesday, I should have the motor Saturday. I have the all new servos sitting in my work bench drawer.
Come on UPS!!!!
