I wasn't sure where to post this so i thought I would start here.
I have a field box that i have made and put on a radio flyer wagon to tote around at the airport. I Just bought a new wagon from lowes that has peumatic tires and made a lot stronger and larger as well. i want to improve on my original two designs before, however my question is do you guys have any suggestions or have some of your own that you've designed. I currently have two power panels on oppisite sides of the wagon(front and back) and don't like the one on the front because the handle gets in the way, works good for a chalk every now and then but not that reliable.
Well hope someone has done this before and has some pointers or some great ideas
a few things i am thinking of doing is putting a 2 gallon plastic gas tank in for the nitro and using it for two different power panels and i think im going to mount them on the sides instead of the front and back. I want two because my brother also flys out of the same wagon and it makes it a lot easier to start two at once and stay out of each others way. I will use a deep cycle 12 volt battery as well. I also want to integrate a way I can put my transmitters in there I'll need 3 slots for my 9c one for my brothers and the other for my 10c i'm planning on getting.
The current box has the top completly flat that doubles as a work bench as well, so i think i want to continue this theme as well with the newer and improved one.
I have a dc field charger for the rx and tx batts as well. and want a place to store my tools and accesories as well.

Why do you want to take that much stuff to the field?
I have a gallon can of fuel with a battery and pump attached to the handle with zip ties.
I have a Sullivan starter and battery pack.
I carry a package of degreasing handy wipes for cleaning the plane at the end of the day.
I carry a thermos of coffee or jug of frozen water depending on time of year.
It all fits in a plastic milk carton rack from WalMart and weighs less than your battery.
I carry a takle box for my transmitter, props, tools and other small stuff I might need.
Keep it simple and it will be a lot more fun.
Just my opinion and how I do things.
Figure out what works best for you.

well i keep the box at the airport in the hanger with our full scale planes. So everything I have at the airport stays in that box, The more centralized around here the less likely they will get seperated and lost, I also like it because the current one is all closed up so dust doesn't affect it much(which when we're working out of the hanger the airtractor blows a lot of dust around. I don't have to load it into the truck or anything just pull it out of the shop and onto the ramp, plus everyone that flys when we do have a couple of others ueses the starters and all out of the same box.
If I had to load it up I would definately go about it another way, I like the wagon beacause i can pull it out with the airplane attached on top, I also have about 10 other models at the airport i keep to fly here and a few are at home but most stay here in case I want a little variety, when it cools down here im gettin them all out one weekend when a freind of mine comes down from st. louis to fly his.

I agreee, in that situation the little red wagon sounds perfect.
How often are you and your brother filling up and starting at the same time?
Are two panels really necessary?
Two gallons of fuel seem like a lot. How quickly do you use it up?
I try and keep it in the origanal bottle and in a dark cabinet as long as possible.
It does deteriorate with air and light.

Well sometimes I have to take two different types of fuel to the field 15% and 20% so the idea of carrying two gallons is adequate to me. My brother also flies but very once in a while so only one power panel is enough.

The only advice that I can gove os keep it simple. I can see what you are saying about you and your brother, but your talking a split second between the 2 starts if your engine runs well and start easy. I have a prefab, glue it together yourself box, holds 1 gallon of fuel my panel and my battery, all my extra hardware and parts in the drawer. Not to mention the area I made to hold extra expoy(for field repairs) as well as the one I made for my after-run oil and CA glue. I also made a plate with holes where my screwdrivers sit upright.All of that stuff is jsut in the top of the box, and the other half holds my TX and misc. other things. Space is tight, but I organized it,ran wires cleanly and was very perticular with the way I did things. Not only does it look awsome and sleek but its easy to get around. The last thing I would want to do is haul a HUGE box around, its jsut more work. Even if you and your brother were working off of my box you would be just fine, 1 gallon of fuel lasts me a long time. And I fly often, ITs really up to you but i would suggest keeping it simple, you might be glad you did.

A wagon? Are you nuts? This simply will not do. You're limiting yourself considerably with the confined space of a wagon. You need to upgrade immediately to something that will allow you to nail up a 8' wide by 3' tall pegboard on each side of a small trailer, carry all of Dubro and Sullivan hardware, with at least two 50' spools of fuel line in different diameters, and bring at least one JR radio, one Futaba radio, and possibly one of each in 72Mhz and 2.4Ghz. You need all the crystals from 11-60 in Futaba, Hitec, JR, and Multiplex or you're just completely unprepared here. Don't stop there, you need spare switches, different thicknesses of CA, extra servo hardware for Hitec, Futaba, JR, and that goes for standard and mini, micro and submicro. Don't forget to hinge a work area so you can do emergency repairs no matter how large.
You completely are shooting yourself in the foot if you don't have everything for gassers too. I think you should possibly get a golf cart with a trailer behind it. An aluminum frame on top to shade you from the sun wouldn't be going to far here. Do not be short sighted, have a cabinet with everything a fire department would have on hand for first aid. Model Aviation magazine just did a Jet article practically cover to cover, so get a fire extinguisher and have a compartment for all AMA forms on hand.
Organize the APC props, pylon props, E props, in all available pitches from 5" up to 23". It would be a sin to not have everything on hand, avoiding ending a flying day due to leaving something behind at a hobby shop. You need at least three 12v batteries on board with chargers for every battery made for the hobby.
The good news is you can donate the tiny wagon to a child in need.

KW, not to make you jealous well when my brother and I do fly we actually oddly spend most of our time starting at the same time, It does take a little while to use the fuel, but on the wagon I have now, thats starting to fall apart because the radio fly isn't built to stand up to that kind of weight i don't beleive
, thats why im asking for advice on the newer model, I like the current one other than those skinny tires are hard to pull across the grass if you want to fly in the grass behind on the shop, on the pavement works awsome, this will be my winter time project.
Alfred, I have thougth of keeping it to down to two seperate nitro systems that way i can have two types of fuel instead of being with only one.
Castor, The reason I have the wagon is because i've never had any luck with the motorcycle batteries, and i've even bought the expensive gel cell's before with no luck. I got the idea about 5 years ago and started on the first design that didn't take long for me to go to the one i have currently that the wagon is finally breaking apart as stated before i don't think it was designed to have a trolling motor batter in it and all the other stuff. But if i had to load it up in my truck I would definately be doing the light weight field box for sure.
Nitro, No one else flys models with my brother and I except a few friends when I say a few I'm talking about 2 or three at best, most of the time its my brother and I if more than one. I think that idea would be cool but since no one fly's with me then i'll stick with the 65 dollar wagon from lows
Also I probably will pull it around with our four wheeler or the lawn mower we use to push in and out the citabria and acro II in the hanger.
