Get rid of all the wires. The one to the glow starter and the one to the electric starter (if you use it). Sure, you can come up with safety rules to follow to make those wires less probable to get caught in the prop, but if they aren't there to get caught........... If they aren't there, the really big benefit is mobility. Where you can easily start the plane is wherever the plane is.

Sullivan makes a battery pack that will fit my starter and uses 12 1.2V 1500MaH sub C's. Probably going to get those as well so that I've got no cords running to the front of the plane while starting it.

Read the prior posts... a much better way to do this is to use the racing packs...
See this thread which has pictures of a typical setup....

As strictly an OS user the only power I need is from my glow starter, which is rechargeable. I keep that and a chicken stick in my cargo pocket and can start my plane anywhere - if it cuts out during taxi, or if no one's around and I need to start on the field, I can. If it doesn't start right up, something needs to be worked on, and avoiding doing the work and forcing it to start with an electric starter could be catastrophic.

Joe, you haven't been in the hobby long enough to have your glow battery start loosing some of it's juice and surprise you yet. You haven't seen what the weather changes can do to your engines, sometimes they just don't want to start when it gets cold. Sometimes you not only need A starter but A few drops of lighter fluid just to give them A kick. Weather changes can and often will turn your 55 and 120 AX into A beast. Stay in the hobby long enough and you will be walking the line asking to use A driver and starter at some point.
In another 20 degrees or so I will be opening up my high ends for the winter flying.

Qty Discount Available
Just a couple dollars less then RS wants so I may as well use a small square 4 amp jell type I have here and make a small wooden box mounted under the starter

I just completed the transition to the Hobbico (Powercore) portable setup. The battery is half the size of the one for the flight box yet is more powerful. It definitely spins my starter better than the flight box battery. I
