I have done patch repair work on models over the years, and definitely not a beginner when it comes to flying, but i need help covering, i got a ready to cover 4* and want to attempt to cover it my self, this will be my first time. I can do large square pieces but when it comes to curves and covering over stringer is where i'm lost. I tried covering it with one big sheet and it didnt work out, i just wasted almost a whole roll of ultracote. I have an iron and heat gun BTW

Look at the Questions and Answers forum under Airplanes and at the top, you will find a sticky about New Covering Videos. These have helped me trememdously.

As the article says, "Use a sharp blade".

DO buy yourself a 100 pack of blades.

I go through a blade or two when doing a repair alone.

The sharper/newer the blade the easier it is to trim the edges and the better the result will look.

Remember to cut the pieces larger than you need. Use good fresh blades to trim it, and change them often. I just recovered my skyraider mach 2 with ultracote, its very easy to work with. Check out Minnflyer's videos on covering a wing. I can't remember where they are but you can pm him and he'll hook you up. I watched them twice, and now I can cover like a pro. Be sure not to use a whole lot of heat with ultracote, it is a low heat covering.

The 4* is actaully easy to cover. There's no concave curves.

To cover over the stinger or the read deck. I simply wrap newspaper over to make a stencil.
This way I'll get a piece that's pretty close. Plus the seam lines are nice and straight.
I don't need to do a lot of shirnking.

Cover from back to front of course. Bottom to top.
For the side of the fuselage. I'll cover a little piece from the rear to the LE of the rear stab.
This way it'll hide the seam.

You have to plan your covering...2 rolls is barely enough..You can't goof too often.

I cut on glass
I also snagged my gf's shear...it's easier to trim the long hang over pieces.. You don't snip...you just run the shear against the edge.
