"first time on the sim forum! i have a question for anyone who can answer it..............i have a dell d620 latitude laptop and i am wondering if anyone has first hand knowledge if either the fsone or realflight will run on the laptop before i go and buy one of them.............?????????

Better yet, download the Real Flight G3 and/or G4 demos from www.knifeedge.com and see how they run on your D620. I have a Latitude D630 on my desk at the office, and it runs FMS adequately. I suspect you'll be disappointed with your D620's video performance.

I don't believe G4.5 is significantly more intensive with regard to graphics. You can turn up extra eye candy on it, but it should run fine on any system that could run G3.5.

If you're not sure of your exact set up, you can find it by going to Control Panel, System. Processer speed and RAM will be listed on the "General" tab. For information on your video card go to the "Device Manager" tab, and look for the video card line.
I'm not sure about this, but my guess is that the demo versions have fairly limited functions and will probably not give you a very accurate picture of how the full program will run on your box.
In addition, once you have installed the program, you have the option to disable some of the more graphics intensive features to speed things up a bit if performance is marginal.
Good luck.

hey all,
thanks for all the input. i have already been through all of your recommended steps earlier today, but to be honest i have checked all the specs. etc before with other programs and it still has not been a good experience..............
in all honesty i would actually just like it if someone had the same laptop and could give a practical "realworld" yes or no to whether it works or not............anyone out there?
regardless, many thanks for your input.

I have a desktop that plays G3.5 just fine, but will NOT run 4.5 at all. I just bought 3.5 instead and saved myself $100.00. The G4 version requires a better grafics card than 3.5 to run period, let alone run well.

I run G4.5 on my desktop, which meets the minimum specs. I can fly on the Photofields OK, but any of the computer generated fields are way too slow. I tried the night flying carnival scene once, and it barely moved at all.
I've run it on my wife's laptop (plugged into the 42" LCD TV) with similar results. I'll check the specs on both systems when I get home.

4.5 doesn't seem to work as well as 4.0 did on my laptop.
If you don't already have a plane, pick up one of the combos that comes with an AFR and an early verion of Real Flight. In hindsight, I should have gone that route.

I actually started flying RC because I was spending too many nice summer evenings at home playing video games. If you can play Crysis and Fallout 3 smoothly, Real Flight G4.5 isn't going to be a problem.
