Default Blade Dancer

Have any of you ever put together a Blade Dancer by MS Composit?

I put one together a few months ago. I have an eflite 370 and 3 cell 1250mAh Lipo propped with a 10x3.8SF. It pulls out of my open palm to take off and flies beautifully. Very stable and very aerobatic.

The construction method of using string hardened with CA works very well although some members of my club have fitted CF spars instead, but I think this is overkill (unles you are going to install a really oversized motor and a 12" prop)

The assembly is fairly easy - inspite of the instructions but I used epoxy for most of the joints instead of the suggested med CA. The only area I have beefed up is the engine mount. I firstly built it stock and maidened the plane, landed it and then gave a slight bit of throttle to bring the plane to my feet. Well the engine pulled right out of the nose taking one of the bullet connectors from the ESC circuit board with it. The glue joint didn't fail but rather the EPP separated abount 2 cells behing the mount. I repaired it with epoxy and 2 bamboo skewers going back to the undercarriage. No further problems.

Really does fly nicely. Some photos.

(Boom is the same as the Blade Dancer but with a different paint job)

Thanks, Andrew.

Mine is almost done. I only have to connect the servos to the control surfaces then put the radio receiver and battery on, in other words, do the CG.

I am curious about the motor mount. I was somewhat concerned about that, considering that the plastic mount is only CA'ed to the fuselage like that and was thinking that it might pull off. I guess you answered that question. So, how did you do the bamboo skewers? Sounds like a simple fix.

With the motor mount installed you can push the sharpened end of the skewer through the two holes on the mount. Then I removed the skewer and coated it with epoxy and reinserted it into the hole. Cut and sanded flush with the mount. No problems since - about 6 flights - get abount 10min per flight on the 3 cell 1250mAh

Ok, Andrew. I just did the skewer thing, pushed each one (did two) in about 6 inches, initially, then coated the skewer with epoxy and pushed it in..pulled it out, coated it more, pushed it in, pulled it out, repeated until I was satisfied that there was plenty of epoxy in the hole, then pushed the skewer in. With the remaining epoxy, I coated the sides of the fuselage in the area where I will put the ESC, RX, and battery pack. I use sticky back velcro (industrial strength ). This will give the sticky something to adhere to rather than just the foam.
