From: Little Rock, AR,
I bought the Avistar Select and put it together in less than 1 hour.
My first day out I was able to take off and land solo several times with only a small dent in the wing due to slow air to ground control (rudder steering) transition and 2 props.
Day 2 of flying I completed loops, rolls and pattern turns. I swear by my Avistar and Realflight Deluxe.

Sorry chum, the Avistar ARF that I put together had no engine or radio eqpt. installed, so it was'nt a shake-n-bake, but almost.
As a matter of fact on the instruction book under the heading
Getting Ready for Flight, says Your Hobbico Avistar 40 trainer is ready for takeoff in as little as 15 - 20 hours. This is a different version of maybe about three. I'm sure we misunderstood.
I don't know why Santa Claus missed to install my ARF's engine and radio eqpt., maybe he was in a rush or partially drunk. Ho Ho Ho.
Regards
Garthwood

The initial post was vague and should have considered the various kits. Since I was a first timer I like the kit I got because the thought of hours and hours and than possibly crashing and burning made me nervious.
I'm planning on building my next one from a kit that requires a little more thought. After all we can't fly all the time.

Please note: There are more than one type of Avistar or Superstar packages avialable. ARF, AWARF and Select RTF
AGAIN, you are comparing an ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) with a RTF (Ready to Fly).
ARF - 15 to 20 hrs to assemble - you must install the engine and radio yourself.
RTF - 20 minutes to assemble - 30 minutes if you epoxy the wings together.
Hobbico Avistar Select is a RTF with the radio and engine installed....Ok Chum?
oh, I don't think it was Santa that installed the radio and engine, it was those Chinese.....
The original post was A HOBBICO SUPERSTAR SELECT RTF - YES IT IS EASILY ASSEMBLED IN UNDER AN HOUR.
The Avistar Select RTF is just as easily and quickly assembled as the Superstar Select RTF.

, long before there was a World Wide Web. Based on the people in my circle of friends and acquaintances, I am the norm rather than the exception. I think if you did a survey of the age of the participants of this group, you would find that a majority of the people here are "older guys".

raptor5900: nice to have you on board. Some of us older people are concerned about the hobby continuing. BTW: I am 52 and been on the net for 10yrs now. You will find most of us will help any way we can regardless of age. We will respect anyone that respects us. Now where is that Geritol.......

I'm glad that finally we got this avistar bit settled, it was turning out to be quite an episode, don't you think so ?.
I'm also glad that you fellas are a great lot and very understanding, including the Raptor kid. Us old fellas must keep the younger generation to carry on this wonderful hobby. Myself I came back to it after several years and was sorry that I've left it in the first place, but the call for service in the Royal Air Force came first, then marriage and all the responsibilities that comes with it.
Us Canucks have to deal with the weather, flying in the winter with frozen fingers is not very enjoyable. The club that I belong to every January 1st. a few bunch of us (older braves) get together at the field and instead of flying we BBQ hot dogs and treat ourselves to hot chili, I mean hot.
Any of you chaps train on GP Flight Sim G2 ?
Regards

To the Little Raptor;
Fantastic kid you got more guts than I have. I'm thinking of getting the G2 or the Ikarus pro. although up here the G2 is more popular. I really got kind of rusty this past winter and having a sim is the right thing to have.
Don't give up little one by the time your teens are over you'll be a real pro. So there you are some old fella gave you a glow plug, you see what I mean, respect, respect, respect.
Keep 'em flying kid.
Regards

Just another example for you Raptor. I'm 51 and have been on the net for about 12 years. (Probably about the time you started.
)
I didn't find this great hobby until I was about 43. So think of how far ahead of me you'll be at my age.
I hope you'll be giving glow plugs to the newbies way before then!

Hey Raptor Kid...........nice to hear from you again. Not much of a NY person. We're practically neighbors, we live 1 1/2 hrs away from Niagara Falls. We drove through there last October south on I90, drove down to Tullahoma Tennessee to visit our daughter who is attending the University of Tennessee Space Institute, she's completing her Master's Degreee in Aero Space Engineering, majoring in Aerodynamics. She's a Captain in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Raptor kid I hope that the RC experience will direct you to the sky when you get older.
Keep flying hard and keep safety in mind always, keep them in front of you, enjoy your flying kid.
