Kool joe's,The big ones would fit in a 1/4 scale. I always felt ripped off that bigger one's were not around when I was a kid.

the big ones were awesome, The slightly larger ones with actual clothes were hand me downs from one of my older brothers. I am really hoping they are still boxed up .I know for sure I have a lot of the plastic only little ones tho

Of course, who in the heck would be flying it if I didn't put a pilot in there. Geezzzz All my planes have pilots.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether i want to have a pilot i was leaning more towards a know because they look kind of nerdy lol but it seems alot of people do it so please vote and post any comments.
I voted Yes, however that is if the model has a cockpit which you asked. Some models do not have a cockpit such as a Q-500 pylon Racer. I don't make cockpits for racers so no pilots there.
In my scale models I usually have a scale pilot of a sort. If it is a sport plane, I may have either and sometimes a REAL SPORTY pilot.
Far too many examples to show here but here are several:

OOPS: Edited to add: If you intend to fly any RC Scale event under AMA Competition Rules, do not forget this one: Both CL and RC:
>>>>"If the pilot is visible in flight in the prototype aircraft then a man-shaped dummy pilot of scale size and width must be visible in the model during flight. The dummy pilot figure will not be scored or considered in any way during Scale Judging. If the contestant wishes, he may present his model for Scale Judging without the pilot figure in place, and no downgrading will be done by the judges if he does so." <<<<

But notice that it has to be there in flight.

Standing in a field, peering up at the sky with a small box in your hand is already pretty "nerdy". I wouldn't worry that a small pilot figure is going to make you any more of a "nerd". You're already maxed out on the "nerd" scale anway.

If this is how you perceive yourself, I suggest you take up Gun Shootin', Bull Riddin'; or, jumping from perfectly good airplanes! These are the man type, cool sports, that none of us "Model Flying Nerds" would ever dream of doing.

I have a couple of planes that I have bothered with a pilot. To me it just adds weight. I am not a scale flyer. I like to go fast. So I try to look at every ounce. With that said, sometimes it is fun and looks good. I think you have to make a decission on what you want your plane to be.

Good luck.

Now, you all make me feel bad because I didn't put a pilot in my Spitfire and it's too late to access to the Canopy...[&o][&o]

The dumbest thing in the air is an open cockpit Bipe without a pilot, any plane you can see a cockpit without a pilot looks stupid. The only thing dumber looking then no pilot is some stupid doll or troll sitting in the drivers seat. Nothing like walking the flight line at a show or contest and seeing a really nice plane with some stupid looking purple haired thing sitting in the cockpit. I see this and always ask myself, did the pilot/builder run out of money and steel his little girls toy or is the clear plastic in his belly button in need of some cleaning so he can see how stupid this looks?? You may gather that I feel very strongly about this, I do. For you dolly people, stand back and look at your plane and give it some thought, that just looks wrong!!!!!!!!

I thought about a 'real' type pilot for this plane...but the 'dolly' fit it better IMO.

Well who else are you going to blame the crash on??
I am with you on this one.
It is still to be determined if Pilot Barbie will get another ride or not !!!
She looked good but that girl just could not land worth a toot

Deadeye,
I don't think dolls like this fall into the 'stupid' looking category, that looks just as 'real' as any other pilot that would go in a sport plane.

Gotta have a pilot!!

I put a micro servo in his chest. His head turns with the rudder.

Phatbob2-that is a cool idea, and wouldnt be to hard either!

I think pilot's are a must for planes with canopies. The Extra 330 is named after my wife, and I used a Barbie that looks like her as the pilot.

Here's the vid. I used a seperate channel and mixed it with rudder. That way I can reverse the second servo.

[color=#FF0099]Well Gentlemen,
Here is "Mini-me". I was asked by one of our pilots if I could make a Barbie look like me to use as a pilot....here she is.... She's been waiting around for me to get a "gasser" to put her in.

And yes, "that girl can land!!!" [sm=kiss.gif]

Ok a full cockpit if your going to take the time and build one , with a cannopy or not should have a pilot ( full figure pilot ) however I don't really agree with the decapitated pilot bust .....to me in some cases looks just as bad without one , IMO sometimes worse I mean on the ground looking at the cockpit ......come on ! who we kidding ? its obvious that someone took a doll and chopped his head off and mounted it in a airplane , as far as in the air are ya really looking at what the pilot looks like ? or are you paying attention to how you are or should be flying ? just my two cents Guys !

Yes. In all my scale planes.
No, on some of my sport type planes.
Never on my planes where the canopy is tinted or in my Pattern type planes.

Yes, a pilot bust will be noticable from certain views , up close. It's also noticable from pretty far away when an airplane flys over head and the pilot is "NOTICABLY MISSING"! However, isn't this a great hobby/sport, when we don't loose sight of the fact: It truly is: "To Each His Own"!

Bev I think that is a great Barbie pilot and it does favor you.
For this plane I took profile pics of myself and the wife and glued them on balsa.
Wifey took exception to riding in the back though
Not the greatest pic but you can kinda see us in there.
