Having searched through RCU, I'd like to get some opinions - if you're so inclined to share . . .
Having a very good experience building my H9 Alpha, I've determined that my second plane (for a variety of reasons) will be a H9 Ultrastick 40.
Are there a good engine people would like to recommend for the Ultrastick? I'd like to keep it 2-stroke for now, for cost efficiency.

I say an OS .46-AX would be outstanding and a .55-AX would be even better. Actually any quality high performance .46 class engine will do the job well.

Yes just trade engine over to H(. Hoever if you would like to keep the Alpha intact....cause you always need at least one back-up... Try the OS 46ax or Super Tiger 45. Both great engines. The OS is much easier to get going. The break-in on the ST45 requires more work; but seemed to have ALOT more power in my opinion - and cheaper too.

Yeah, the ST-45 is a real powerhouse for only $70. I am flying a .55AX on my Four Star 40 and it is amazing. It has unlimited vertical at 1/2 throttle. I find the OS engines are easier to set up. You just break in per the manual and they are trouble-free. My two Super Tigres have also been great, but they required a little more fiddling after break-in to get them reliable.
If you are not in a hurry, you can keep your eyes out for a sale. Hobby People regularly has some pretty amazing deals on Magnum 2 and 4 strokes. I got my OS .55AX from Tower last December for $119 shipped, and I am not a super saver member.
Good luck

I've only had 3 SuperTigre's but all broke it easily for me. I kind of enjoyed running mine in on a test stand first...something to do on a rainy day. I hear a properly broken in ringed engine gives good service. Never worn one out so I cannot say.
But I sure liked the one I had - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFV72&P=0

As mentioned above, just swap in your old engine for now. We did that with a TT GP42 on our H( US40. Yeah, this is the 42 bushinged engine. It was a sweet plane with that engine. We flew it for a while like than and we are now upgrading it to an Aviastar .53.
Great second plane, no matter what engine you put on it.

The Super Tigre engines are indeed powerhouses. Some are tough to break in and some are not. Some of them are difficult to seal the o-ring under the carb due to the ring being hardened. Once you get them broke in and tuned they are beasts. If you order one I strongly suggest picking up a remote needle valve for it. The stock needle is trim your nails close to the prop on all of em.
