I'm not willing to spend the extra money for PCM receivers but either would be a good choice for almost any plane.

Awsome. Any opinion on the Sig Kadet Mark II as a first time flyer trainer?

All of the Kadet line are nice slow flying big wing floaters. If it's your first plane, you may want to try the Kadet LT-40 ARF. It has a little more dihedral which makes the plane want to stay upright. The Mk II is also a kit, not an ARF. If you haven't got the time and experience to put one together, you may want to consider the ARF. If I'm understanding you Receiver question correctly, remember that you are limited to the number of channels of your Transmitter. You can get a 12 channel Receiver, but if the Transimitter is only 4 channels, you're waisting your money. I however have all 8 Ch receivers for my 6 Ch transmitter because they are cheaper than 6 Ch. Also the Tower Hobbies 8Ch DC FM is the same Rx as the Futaba 168, except for the price. For $30.00. You're fine. Worst case-They're not compatable and you sell them for $50.00 each.

Do you have a PCM radio to operate those?

i have built 4 planes over the years, just never actually flown. I love building the kits. IMO it is half the fun. As for a TX i have a Futaba 7 cap.

I've never seen a Kadet, as far as I know, but it has been around for a long time. If it was bad it probably would not still be available.

It does have one 'feature' that I consider a negative for a beginner plane. It has a molded cowl on the front. New pilots tend to nose planes in when learning to land which tends to break cowls.

If you do not have an instructor lined up, put your zip code in the club search http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx and find out where the local fliers are.

I've had an old OS 40 FP on my Kadet. When I put the floats on it I switched to the OS 46 AX. More than enough power.

I'm curious how you're getting those recievers so cheap. If they are used, I hope you're buying from someone you can trust. Crash damage is usually not visible in an inspection, but shows up after you're in the air.

I admit that I don't know anything about Futaba or their receivers, nor do I care to, but if you are getting these receivers, and if they are 72 MHz, what channel are the receivers on? You may need to get crystals too.

I think the 149's are independant of band, but if they say Hi band or Low band, make sure your Tx channel is in that band.

Band or no band, it still might need crystals. I don't think it's synthetic (synthesized). That's my point.

It will need the crystal to match your TX. That RX is capable of either hi or low band.

Hi,

Before you buy extra Radio Receivers, maybe you should join a Model Airplane Club in your local area. Take the Advice and RC Training Help from the Local members. Ask which Radio works best in that area, compatable with other member's Transmitters if you need "Buddy Box" Instruction, Best R'C Training Airplane, (SIG LT-40 is available in Kit ~$85.00 Form or as an ARF ~$130.00) and how many instructors are in the club. When do they hold their Training sessions and such.

If you already have a working radio system, what Frequency is your Futaba Transmitter, Is it 72 mHz ? (Aircraft Only) What Channel is it ? and is it AM ? FM ?, or FM / PCM Compatable ?

If the Futaba Receiver that you are looking at has a Crystal installed, Remove it and look at the PC board to see if there is a RED Dot. No Red Dot is LOW Band Ch 11-36?. High Band is 37-60 .

Even with the correct crystal installed, there is NO Guarenttee any USED Receivers will function properly with every Transmitter at every location in USA. Again, that's where the local club members can help you with what "Works" and what does NOT.

Yes the OS 46 AX is a great choice! They have become my favorite motor for a plane that size! And do get someone in the local club take you up on the buddy box till you can solo! I know you say you like to build but don't if you don't have too every day! You will meet great folks at your local club because you will meet folks like you that love the sport and save money by not crashing the plane! Help is needed so that you do not give up! If you fly alone to start you have not got a good chance of geting it back in one piece! Good luck! Bob

Have a great day! I know i'm going too!

I had a Kadet 30 years ago. It's a pretty hard plane to nose in. I soloed with it in 9 flights, and was able to take off with it the next spring after winter no problem. It was a real floater of a plane. Pretty difficult to break the cowl.

The TX is on channel 44 and i have a 44 RX crystal for the RX. As for the RX itself, it was an evay item the specified "never crashed" so i hope it is in good working order, i know e-bay= no garuntees. I pick up the Kadet Fri. from my local hobby shop. So i am still looking for decent servos. Looking at getting the futaba 3152s x4 for 55$. Hope all goes well. Thanks for all the input and suggestions. As for a club i am joining AMA next week, then hopefully CBRC next week aswell.Cant wait, am really excited.

You will love it! For us that do this it is by far somehing the most fun we can have at all ages! When I was a kid about 8 years old I seen one in a hobby shop and knew I wanted to fly one some day. I started in it at about 23 years of age and had our first child then 3 more came along . So I was not able to do anything with it. Then my wife left me and my daughters so I had to raise them up and could not fly! Then about two years ago I got into it in a big way joined a club and the AMA and have had the time of my life! You will find great folks in this hobby, some of the best folks I have ever met of all ages! What I am saying here is it got into my blood over 40 years ago and never left me, and now I am flying and will be flying War- Birds over Rockies this year! Good luck and you will love this a life time! Bob

Have a great day! I know i'm going too!
