Default Thank you!

And you guys know who you are. With yalls help, it makes being a noob much easier to grow to the next level and not give up. Without help and support like yall give, many would never grow to the next level. And I know a little about helping grow the hobby and helping the noobs.

Gary, aka Biff.

Thanks.

RCU is a great place for rc pilots to hang out. Both experienced and beginners can enjoy this website. Maybe thats what makes it so much fun? That there is a huge variety of pilots here

It ran fine for several fights at both lowand high rpm. Then I was making an approach with the throttle cut and when it got close enough, I couldnt hear the engine and as it got closer I noticed the prop not turning. Insted of grabbing down elevator to get her down as soon as possible like a noob might do, I just kept it level as long as I could while gradually applying up elevator untill touchdown.

At first I though I had the idle set too low and thats why it died since I just went back through the Kadet LT-40 and made some tweaks to center all my trims on the radio. Also re-did the CG since I was way too nose heavy with the Magnum XL .52. I had to add an ounce of weight on the rear BTW. (Close enough is a disaster with planes)

On the next flight I adjusted the idle a little higher and it seemed ok on the starting bench. I did the usual full throttle, back it down to idle, rev it back up and it ran fine from low end to high end so I though I was good to go. I was about 10 minutes into the flight and was going to some touch and goes and/or low passes. This time I heard that the engine wasn't running since I was the only one flying without other guys making noise. (Dang 2-Strokes. )

This approach was different though. I had been practicing right hand turns and was coming in at about the 10:00 position. CST time. I was too low to make any hard turns to get lined up straight with the runway in fear of stalling. The wind was at my back and I was able to flare up and land width wise on the runway barely rolling into the grass and no damage whatsoever. You can't learn that on a sim. LOL Allthough I have never been hooked up to a buddy box or had an official flight instructer, I was able to land today because of what I have learned here on RCU. Because of the very experianced guys taking time out their busy days helping us noobs does work!

Since the engine is so new, I thought it may not be broken in yet. Kinda figgered the low end needed adjustment. Cept it wasn't there.

I made a rookie mistake that I wouldn't of if I had went through an instructer. While breaking in and tuning the Magnum .52, I thought the low end needle valve moved a little too easy while adjusting it. But flew it anyway! I wont take those kind of chances again. Lesson learned and I was lucky. When in doubt, keep it on the ground or gravity will whup your butt!

I e mailed Global Hobby today in hopes of getting another needle jet since that motor has been discontinued. Fingers crossed.

This is the ARF version, it came with the bolt on wing.

Well does anyone have a link to a forum to a bolt on wing mod for any trainer? I have to order #67 rubber bands online and they are very annoying.

I can walk you through it since I built the kit many years ago and converted the wing to bolt on. However, since you have the plane allready built I wouldn't bother with it. Unless you don't mind cutting away the covering and front sheeting of the underside of the wing and removing the allready installed dowels for the blubber bands.

The ARFs wing front is IMO under engineered. I would rather see two 1/4" dowels holding the front part of the wing in insted of just the center doubled up ribs in a notch. I have a bad feeling that's not only a weak point but having only one contact point up front may allow some left and right, back andforth action on the leading edge of the wing within the saddle. With a plane this size, weight and wing loading, I think the ARF's design is bad in regards to the frontal area of the bolt on wing set up. (Sorry Sig)

I may go in and tear the wing up and fix the front end if I don't finish the 4*60 first. If you wanna go ahead and do yours, Ill do mine and include photos. The rear is super easy.

Im also running a .52 4 stroke which should use a larger prop over a 2-stroke due to having more torque. The 11x7 MAS seems a little small and I want to use at least a 12x5 but due the low ground clearance and really springy landing gear, every semi hard landing will chip the 11x7 prop. I ordered some new landing gear that will be here today and is taller, I hope to change that.

Dubro Heavy Duty Wing Mount Kit 1/4-20 very easy to install. I used this for the LT 40. You don't have to tear covering off.

Wouldn't that be just the nylon bolts?

It's the whole kit, all you'll need with this kit is some dowel rod and a little epoxy, drill and a bit. Also check Staples, Office depot, or other office supply chain, for your rubber bands, if you don't do this mod to your plane.

Well I've decided to do the bolt on wing mod just because I love building. I have plenty of extra covering and don't mind spending 10-20 hours on it. I don't have a tap so I'll just use blind nuts. Some pictures would be good. (maybe a new thread) My biggest concern is getting the front end to seat down tight.

It won't take that long. Just drill two 1/4" holes through the leading edge and add an extra support near the main spar. Use 30 minute epoxy and all is good. For the rear, do it the same as the arf with 1/4-20x 1 1/2" nylon bolts and maybe add an extralayer of thin ply on top of the trailing edge on the rear where the bolts go through. Ill post pics tommarow of how the arf was done.
