Yeah, that's why I brought it up. One woman sued a store because she fell off the toilet. Guess she wanted a seat belt? In the U.S. people throw stuff on the floor just so they can slip on it and then sue the place for not cleaning it up fast enough. They're called con-artists or THIEVES. They drive up the costs for the rest of us.

I must admit, I have yet to se this happen, the pictoral warning on a hammer that shows a hammer chipping a chunk out and hitting someone in the eye because they hit a nail with it. Every hammer I have had will never chip chunks off and go flying, they just mushroom the heads till they're about 1/3 bigger, then I usually grind them back to the original diameter they once were.

Planebuilder,
You have never hit a nail a little off center and had it go flying.  I have many times when I was a formwork carpenter during college. I have even had them fly up and hit me in the face at a pretty good clip.  Luckilly the company I worked for had a 100%  safety glasses policy that they enforced so i was fine. I have also seen a day laborer with a cheap hammer split a chunk off of the head while driving a nail. None of this means I have grounds to sue the manufacturer, but they feel they must protect themselves from the possibility so they put the sticker on the hammer, and raise the price a nickel and we the consumer pay for thier risk management.

The main problem is that there are too many people who have been babied or over protected  thier entire lives and have this sense about them that they are not responsible for thier own actions.  Untill the courts start throwing out these frivalous law suits and penalizing the people who bring them up, and companies stop settling out of court because it is cheaper than litigation we will continue to have these types of problems.

I am now going to climb down off of my soapbox.  If  I fall can I sue borax since there was no warning telling me not to climb on top of the box in the first place.

This post got me to thinking about throwing a small fire extinguisher in the car for the field. I'd never seen a post suggesting this in the past, but it can't hurt to have one just in case. I wonder what type would be best to get, ABC?

You should keep one there anyway and yes, and ABC would be best. Any fire beyond and ABC is beyond a "small home" unit anyway any needs a professional. As some say here at work "If in doubt, LEAVE!" There is nothing here worth dieing for.

I put a small ABC extinguisher in all of my vehicles after I watched a coworkers jeep burnon the side ofthe road after she ran over a cardboard box that blew out of the truck in front of her. She was in traffic and had nowhere to swerve to miss the box. The exhaust almost immediately ignited the box because it was already burning too much to pull it from beneath the jeep when she got stopped. A $15 extinguisher could have easily put the box out or at least slowed it down enough that she may have been able to remove it from under the truck before it caught fire. By the time a couple of other good samaritans stopped with fire extinguishers the canvas top and theinterior of the jeep was on fire and there was nothing they could do.

It is easy to come up withmany scenarios in my headwhere a fire extinguisher would be needed at the field. Cheap insurance in my opinion.

I'm required by law to carry one in my work vehical, and for my jobsites, but I installed one in my jeep because the guy's I go wheelin with didn't think to carry one, ever wonder what the temp of a catalitic coverter is? they internal core of about 1000-1200 degrees, the surface can be around 500-800 degrees, not too hard to light the grass on fire when driving nice and slow through the fields at times. I once had a car burn, if it wasn't for a old guy who lived in the farm house running out with his extinguisher, my car would have been history. So yes, without thinking about it, I do carry one in my vehical, and I change it out every year, a small ABC will run you less than a gallon of fuel for the planes, but will save the field, you flight box and your plane if needed.

I know a attorney who did just that - stuck his hand under a running mower to clean some grass out of it and cut off 2 fingers and part of a third. After 14 hours of sugery they where back on, but it took him the better part of a year to fully recover. When asked why he did it, he said "I don't know" [sm=confused_smile.gif]

I'm surprised he didn't sue the lawnmower mfgr and the store where he bought it!!!!
