After a little more reading around, the Big Stik 40 would be under powered with the .52 fs. I have a ST .90 that doesnt have a home. Originally it was to go on the 4* but Id rather use the Saito on that plane. So heres my plan. Ill keep the LT-40 as it is as well as the 4*. Since I allready have enough electronics for 3 planes, Ill pick up the Big Stick 60 and put that ST 90 in it. I think thats a good, well rounded out stable.
The high wing trainer, the 4* and a HOT ROD!
Then after finishing up the 4*, its back to the building board with the SSE. Plane number 4. lol

I would sell the LT 40, order the Big Stick 60 for fire wood, fly the 4 Star 60 with that 90 super tigre you have and get the SSE on the building board soon. You'll love the SSE!
Then you'd have some extra cash from the LT 40, the Big Stick 60 would keep you warm in the winter, the 4 Star will allow you to learn aerobatics on the slower side, and the SSE will make you wish you had 2 of them!

Not trying to sound like an ass, but you should probably accept the fact that you will crash someday. It happens to everyone. I have jitters everytime I take off. And crashes suck. But Ive never known anyone that hasnt crashed. The advice the guy gave about flying your trainer alot more was pretty good. http://www.tompierce.net/SBD/index.htm Go to this site. This guy put 2 years into this build and it is spectaculer. And then crashed on the first flight. I probably would have been in shock for months but he seemed to take it all in stride. Good luck to you..

Yes, but the Yugo "engine" will cost a lot less to repair than the Hummer "engine" in case you run it into the back of your bosses car on purpose!

On second thought, I'd put the Saito 100 4-stroke on the 4 Star 60 instead of the super tigre 90. Then you'd only need 1 paper towel to wipe the oil off your plane compared to 10 towels using the 90 super tigre 2 stroke.
Have fun and good luck on your decisions.

I used a kit built 4*40 as my second plane and I was really nervous about the maiden as well. I also did not want to crash it at all. The maiden went find and now after flying a ton, it has some repair marks where the landing gear block has been glued back on as well as some other stuff. If you are worried about crashing, then you wont have any fun. Just fly the plane and make sure you do everything you can to avoid the most damage if something does go wrong. Crashes and repair is a part of this hobby, whether you want it to be or not. I vote to just fly the airplane when you think you are ready after flying your trainer for a while. Buying a plane just to crash is just nonsense, especially if money is tight.
The 4* is a very good second plane after running with your trainer for a while. No need for something in between.

Don't be such a girly man.[sm=cry_smile.gif] The 4* is a very gentle flying plane. Just make sure the cg is correct. Set up dual rates and some expo if you can. Take it up to altitude, and see what happens in a stall. You will be amazed at how slow this plane will fly. Get someone thats a good flyer to maiden it and get it trimmed out. No need to make it a 3rd plane. Just do it!

I have a Big Stick 60 with a super tiger .90 and its the best match you can get. You just have to be careful with the super tiger tuning and flying as its not as forgiving a motor compared to something like that saito. I would still highly recommend an instructor maidening any plane for you at this point, but that your call. I still get too nervous to maiden most of my planes.

Gary; Do you belong to an RC Club in your area? If so, they can put you on a buddy box for the first few flights of your 4*. Just a thought! If not, you need to think positive. If you can fly that trainer, you can fly the 4*. Period! Think positive!
Got back into the hobby after 30 plus years and flying anything I want. Building a gas Bucker Jungman now and getting a Funtana 90 ready for the flight line next weekend! Have fun, burn holes in the skies.

Well glad to met ya bkfamily1! Sure wish I had either your luck or skill. The worst crash I ever had my plane went completly out of control and hit hard dirt at full throttle nose first. The only explanation I could come up with for the crash was the full scale P3 Orion off in the distance around 3 miles. Maybe he zapped me. Since then I've been lucky enough to have nothing more than hard landings.
If you are ever coming to a fly in in the north alabama area lemme know. see ya.

Chuck, I don't remember ever flying those planes. The Merced club had a T-34 and Kaviler klass so I have flown a bunch of those little planes. The little plane Mike showed looked like a good one and I was just wondering how it flew. The price was right for a second plane, they always seem to take a beating compared to even the trainer.
I may be taking on more students this fall and just looking at other planes besides the 4* and Super Sportster for the #2.

I always thought that it was the other way around, that RC Pilots needed to convince themselves that they do not need another plane.
I've always failed unfortunately!

Busted!
Me too. You figgered me out bro. Honestly, I'm not afraid to fly the 4*. I cant WAIT!~ Yall are supposed to support me in buying another plane!
My buds keep telling me that I should be flying the SSE and not "Those Trainers" lol I dont know what happened with me. I crashed a PT 20 about 15 years ago and about 8 years ago I was flying Pico Sticks with no problem. I just got back into planes a few months ago and am allready bored with the LT-40. Its fat, heavy, doesnt respond and hates the wind. A couple of guys have told me they have never seen anybody learn as fast as I have before. I think its because of racing RC cars for 17 years and learned ability of "Feeling" motion and hand eye coordination. The only difference between cars and planes are gimbles and crashing planes does more damage. The 4* will be my second plane. This will be one I will not push the limits on though. This will be my old man cruiser with a great big scarey Saito 100 GK covered in jet white and metallic blue. Itll be my Harley Davidson so to speak.
Allthough my buds think Im ready for the SSE, I do NOT want to be over confident. I dont want to spend a 100 plus hours building it just to ground loop it into assfalt hell. Thats why I wanna an intermediate ARF to push the limits with. With the engines I have, I dont have many choices without going with another trainer. I could pull the magnum .52 fs out of the LT-40 and put into something else, but I really dont want to. Thats a really good plane/motor combo I wanna keep. I have a .30 OS fs and I cant find a plane I like for it. The Eaglet 50 built up too heavy for it and had a very rough landing. lol
That leaves me a ST .90. The Big Stik seems to be a gentle plane I should have no problem handling after I get one my freinds to take it up for me and trim it out, set the expo etc. Ill eventually have to take some chances and I would much rather crash the Big Stik than my Harley Davidson. Lets face, we all crash sooner or later except that one dude. [X(]
I know theres alot of other plane choices out there that may fit my bill, but heres the deal.
I'm ordering an ARF tomarrow to fit one of my motors. This weeks check was a tad small since I didnt work any over time working on my 4*. I dont have a extra couple of huns laying around and I cant save a dime. Im compulsive and I want everything here, and right now! Tower has the easy pay option and if I order tomarrow, I could have Big Stik here within 5 days and ready to go in another week or two.
One more thing. A bud of mine is a very good pilot but cant even build an ARF. He wouldnt even be flying unless I built and sold him my Herr little something extra. I have a feeling after he maidens the Big Stik, he will want it! And I can make some extra cash while keeping another pilot in the hobby!
Feel me?
Thanks guys.

I appreciate the compliment, but I must admit I have neither the luck or skill. I just limit my RCs to cars and trucks (so far)!

I would listen to your buddies if I were you and get that SSE done. You could build 4 of the SSE's in 100 hours, they go together so fast. I guarantee once you fly one you'll love it! It will roll 3 times in 1 second if you want, stay right on track and will also land slow on a dime.
And instead of ordering that Big "ugly" Stik for your 90 ST, I'd be ordering an OS 46 AX for the SSE. You already have a big "ugly" LT 40 trainer you are sick of.
Then you'd have a (4-Star) Harley and also a little (SSE) Mercedes in your hanger.
What more could a guy like you ask for....other than more money?
Good Luck!

3 months of building the 4* sorta has me burnt out on kits. And I have the SSE, a Pete n'Poke and a few park flyer kits yet to build. And I just sold a SuperStar 40 with an OS .46. No more 2 strokes for me. The .46 was a great motor tho.

Dude....get the Big Stick. You'll totally love it. Of all my planes,my big stick is my all time favorite for many reasons. Now I dont have a 4* yet,but I did go to buy one one day and ended up walking out with a sig hog bipe....But,I'd bet my buddies plane that if I did,I'd still prefer my stick over it,and yes I know 4* are well liked too. Big sticks just seem to have a "personality" like no other plane I've experienced. Anyway, the stick is not only an easy flying, great second plane...its also a classic must have plane and now would be the perfect time for you to have one.

The Wingman or Sky Raider is a breeze to fly and get your confidence up. I still keep one around because my flying is now an on and off thing, I fly it first to warm up on when I go back out and dust off my flight box.
