My friend is building a Mini Telemaster with a O.S .10 LA and micro servos and he would like me to ask you fine folks . . .
Where can he find grommets and the brass inserts for Hitec HS-55 servos? We will be needing them for the vibrations as it is being converted to glow.

The HS-55 don't use grommets and they aren't designed to accept them so you'd have to rig up something on your own. I ran these on a plane using a Norvel .074 without any sort of grommet though and had no problems. The tiny engines just don't vibrate like the bigger ones. Not sure on the OS .10 since I've never owned one.

OK then, if the HS-55s can not hold grommets, how can he rig up something in it's place? Any suggestions?
Can some kind of silicon sealer or similar be applied underneath and around the servo screw before mounting to give it some kind of cushion?
Thank you.

I'd look for a grommet for another mini or micro servo and modify the mounting tab on the HS-55 to accept it. Shouldn't be very difficult to do.

Use some pieces of fuel tubing or maybe something like automotive vacuum tubing.

For HS-55's (and similar micro servos) take a piece of medium fuel tubing and cut its length the same as the servo width, then slit one side so it'll fit over the servos mounting ear. Use a t-pin to put a hole in the tubing and force a mounting screw through it. The tubing should keep the screw in place while you position the servo over your pre-drilled holes and screw the servo in place.

Is it really necessary to spend over $15 per servo for something like a simple Mini Telemaster?
Mini Telemaster is not all that big.
You else thinks the HS-55 will not work with a .10 engine?

I flew the heck out of a Herr Little Extra using them. The little .074 hardly vibrated at all. Also ran them in a Herr Mustang using the same engine. I've even used the HS-55 as a throttle servo in a .40 sized airplane. (I would not use it on a control surface in that size of plane obviously) You might ask the guys over in the 1/2a forum what they use.

If you are using a .10, you probably are better off geting the HS-65HB's. This is the karbonite gear version, they are a lot stronger than the HS-55's and don't weight that much more to have an impact on the planes performance. I have HS-65HB's mounted in my Herr Lil Extra powered by an OS .10 FP and haven't damaged one yet. I'll be converting it over to a .15 but will keep the same servo's.
There is a 1/2A traveling plane called GRACE (see sticky at the top of the 1/2A forum) that is using the HS-65HB's. It's reedie powered and flies just fine with them.
HS-55's will work fine for a reedie .049, but anything larger (except for throttle) and you're probably better off going with the HS-65HB's.

There is no way he will spend $26 per servo (plus shipping) for a $40 kit. I don't see why the HS-81 wouldn't work, it's only a 20 oz plane.

I've used HS-55's in my little Turbo Porter for years, 48" wing, 33 oz, O.S. .15 engine. They are just fine. To isolate them put a piece of servo tape, or closed cell foam, between the servo tab and the servo mount. He will be just fine with this set up. He's not building a rocket, it's a Telemaster.

The radio systems recommended for the kit come with HS-55s. I think the 55s are worth trying, especially since you already have them. I drew a picture of how I would isolate them from vibration.
The 81s weigh twice as much as the 55s. They are definitely plenty of servo if you decide to go with them.
