Default Nova ready to maiden!

Finally!!! Whew. This ARF build really kicked my butt! Narrow fuselage made it a challenge for the elevator and rudder setup. But other than that it was just getting the time to make it right. balanced tonight. She's read to fly. Had to add 7, 1/4 ounce weights to the nose. Way tail heavy, but have read that about this plane. This was my first ARF that I had to install the hinges on and I learned ALOT about that issue. I think I'm ready for a kit! I know it will be much more involved, but I think I'm up for the challenge! I'm running an OS 46LA with a 11 X 6 APC prop (unless some one had a better suggestion).
Thanks for all of the advise. hope to fly it Wednesday. Will be sure to post a report. By the way. I found the pull pull setup to be an easy install, also ended up using a sleeved cable for the throttle, all works like a charm! At least in the basement
Here are a couple of pics. Can't wait to fly it.

Looks good, did you get a cowl with it? Here's a couple pics of mine with cowl on.
I know, I know, the fuse is missing a pin stripe on one side. Don't know where it went, but I'm going to re-cover it soon anyway, so I'll just live with it till then.

Yeah I got the cowl with it. Not putting it on until I get the engine dialed in. It's a new engine, well only three tanks of fuel have been rain through it on the ground. I noticed that the pin striping up near the fire wall comes loose alot. I need a rx battery as well. I have a 1500 NiMh 4.8 volt. But with the DX7 I'm thinking it would be safer to run a six volt. But then again, only running four standard and one micro servo, it might be okay. But as Bob said "remember the five P's" so will most likely wait and get a six volt 2000 NiMh. Did you have to add alot of weight to the nose to get in balanced? I balanced my at 4.5 inches. I still have to check the lateral CG. I see that you cut out a large portion on the front of the cowl. Do you feel you really needed to cut that much out? I drilled a large hole in front of the carb. But looking at yours I may need to do a little more. Also looks like you ran pull pull for your elevator as well?? No they can't be, you would have to add another servo.

I'll have to pull the wing off and look at mine again. I'll try to do that when I get home this evening and post a pic when I do. The wing hasn't been off in quite a while as the wing bolts are a pain to get in and out without dropping down into the belly pan. I didn't build this one, bought it RTF from another guy here on RCU that lives close to me. I'm certain about the rudder being pull-pull because I remember adjusting it after ripping the rudder loose and repairing it. (ran out of fuel, deastick landing didn't quite clear an electric fence) I'm pretty sure I remember dual elevator servos's, if not then it has the Y-rod set up. Can't remember for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's not a pull-pull on the elevator.

As far as the cowl, It has quite a bit cut away in the front for cooling, not sure if it needed that much, but I haven't had any problems with it getting hot. The big hole in the side of the cowl is partiallly due to the engine being mounted at a little past 90 degrees so the muffler would tuck up under the bottom of the fuse. I'm running a 4.8v 2000mah JR flat pack tucked up just behind the firewall and a Futaba 127 reciever. Engine is a .46 fx. I didn't see any stick on weights, but the firewall and landing gear mounting area has been glassed over for fuel proofing, and the cowl is pretty thick, so with the cowl on it probably didn't need much if any added weight. I do love the way it flies, does the best knife edge of any plane I've got at the moment.

I have my engine mounted the same as one yours. I drilled a hole in the cowl directly in front of the carb, figure the carb needed more air to breath properly. Thought about mounting a servo on each side of the fuse for the duel elevators. Mine came with two small (seem like carbon fiber tubes) that go down through the belly pan, wing screw mount area, that keep them from dropping in the belly pan when you take the wing on and off. The battery I'm worried about becuase I'm using spektrum 2.4. Which I have read about "brown outs" when the servo loads cause the volts to drop below I think 3.8 volts. Rx basically shuts down and reboots. Of course by the time it reboots, the plane meets mother earth. I hope to be doing some KE's on Wednesday.
