I am looking to hook up the following two planes to my Spektrum DX6i radio: Avistar and Hangar 9 J-3 Piper Cub PNP. Any suggestions on the best recievers for the DX6i?
Thanks,
Brian

Spektrum’s AR500 is a full range receiver ideal for sport aircraft pilots who are looking for simple
Features
Dual aileron ports
5 Channel
Only 7 grams
I use these in all my smaller models.
Cheers

The AR500 is fine but should note that the dual aileron ports are not separate channels so you cannot set up flaperons/spoilerons. Basically it has a build in Y-harness.
I have used AR6100's on my gliders that have almost been specked out with no drops in signal but am hesitant to use them on my larger/expensive planes.

Thanks for the information. One question though: Is it necessary for me to buy the AR6200 since I am only using 4 channels. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, but I don't want to sacrifice quality either.

You aren't buying the 6200 for the channel capacity, you buy it for the extended range and reception it gets you.

The AR 500 is a full range receiver and never had any problems with it, he is looking for a receiver to go in a cub not a pattern aircraft.

I use the 6200 in all planes above Foamy Park flyer sized and have never had an issue. I have seen some that decided to use a 6100 in a Balsa model lose it. I think the extra $20 is worth it for the safety factor. The AR 500 is another good choice for Balsas that are not Aerobats but it won't save you much if any money vs. the 6200.
Gots to read the whole post..
