Hi guys,
Flying my Seagull Spacewalker 2 with an OS 46AX, 10 x 6 prop, 8cc tank, set on low rates about 1/2 to 3'4 throttle. How much time do I get to fly before re fueling? I'll be using a timer and was thinking 8 min or so.. Am I close?
How many min would you set your alarm for and does that include warm up?
Thanks

I would probably guess more than that maybe 10 minutes. But, It is always better to set a conservative time and land with fuel then to over estimate your flight time and half to land dead stick.

8cc?? that's about .3 ounces. with that you'd get less than a minute of flight time. I hope you meant 8 ounces.
Anyway, the easy way to find out is to simply run a tank a fuel through the engine on the ground. Restrain the plane so that it can't move and then run a tank of fuel through it at full throttle and time how long it takes to run out of fuel. That will give you a good guideline of how long you can fly on a tank of fuel

Each plane will be a bit different, the 8 minutes is about right for the first few flights but I like to land then see how much fuel I used then set the timer. I fly with one fellow that has the OS .55 in a Pulse ARF, not sure of the tank size, it's the stock tank that came with the ARF, he is getting a half hour or three 10 minute flights before he has to tank up again. I have never seen a combo that gets that kind of mileage. I figure my own planes at about one minute per ounce of fuel so I buy my tanks with that in mind.

it depends on the plane, engine, prop, nitro content, and how heavy you are on the throttle.
he longest ive flown on 8oz is 47min and 15 sec with a gp rapture (average sports plane, not a glider) that was w/ a gms .47, wildcat 10% nitro and 11x5 apc prop
for the most part if your are flying in circles, 20+ min. aeorbatics 15 min, wide open throttle 10 min.

on my .049 cox with 8cc tank I get about 3 minutes of flight, and with 1/2a size planes, you pretty much always deadstick in,...so I do that with all my flying even up to my .46 stick, when it dies, just bring it in...I have lost one or 2 where they actually fell out of the sky, but not for a long time now...Rog

Oops! I ment ounces Thanks Ken! So If i'm reading correctly I could get anywhere from 8 min to 45 min? I'm running 15% and flying casual sportflying, maybe a couple loops and rolls but that's about it.</p>

Well....47 minutes is kind of a record!
JJ must have been flying a low drag model, slowly and with minimum throttle.
For your type of flying, 15 minutes will be the maximum, I believe.
Set your timer for 12, and you will be allright.
Best luck!

i was flying this plane http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFHG4&P=0 when i got that time, its nothing fancy, floats around very well though
also
what you do is count the turns it takes to fill an empty tank when you are fueling it. then count how many turns you put into it when you are refueling it that will tell you about how much fuel your useing.

I can get about 15 min out of a 10oz tank, for my OS 46AX with a little to spare in case I need to go around a couple of times, the engine is set just a little rich so full tune you should get at least 12 min with some extra room for landing with a 8oz tank.
I should add I set my timer for 12 min after I warm the engine in the pits for the first flights all I can go is about 15 min max any way without getting a little burnt out

Thanks guys! 47 min would be awesome! Not holding my breath though..lol I took the day off from work and will be doing what Ken suggested by timing how long it will run at wide open throttle. Even though I don't flyWOT, it will give me a "worst case scenario" but I'd be very happy with 12 min of flight time!
Thanks again guys!

Just wanted to post my results from today.
With very littletime it took to warm up,Full throtle was 8 min and 1/2 throttle 11 min.So I should be safeat about 9.5/ 10min of safe flying wouldn't you say?

To be honest, it does not really matter how long the engine can/will run. Most tanks will give you about twice the time you actually use for a flight, and even if you annoy everyone else by flying around for ever until the motor eventually cuts, the model will still glide to a landing. Setting timers is both unnecessary, and sometimes can lead to 'landing anxiety' where you just have to land, cause the timers beeped, and it might not be a opportune time to do so. Forget the thing, enjoy the flight, and if the engine does stop, (and they all do) just treat a deadstick as another thing to learn to deal with. It will make you a much more courteous and relaxed flyer in the end.
