I have been having ongoing issues with my OS .61FX having issues with a really slow transition. I have been experiencing this since day 1, and couldn't for the life of me figure out what the heck was wrong. I have posted a couple topics in various forums trying to resolve the issue, and although I had a lot of help from the fellow RCU members, nothing worked. Wednesday, I went up[ to my LHS (The Realm), and asked the guy working about the issue (I can't remember his name, sorry). He told me that I HAD to have something stuck in the intake of my carburetor. He told me it is fairly common for the bottles that the fuel come in to have little slivers of the bottles themselves in the fuel. He also stated that these slivers (even though not easily seen with the naked eye) often get stuck in the spray bar. He then went on to tell me to clean it with a single piece of copper wire, and that will resolve my issue. Well, I did this, and IT WORKED!! I have never had this engine transitioning as fast and smoothly as it does now! I can't wait to get the bird back in the air to see what she can do with a "running" engine. Hopefully, this little bit of info will help someone else.

That is great... happy you got your engine running properly. Also good to know, as I just got the same motor and am waiting on the plane to arrive.

That's him! He is always very helpful when I need advice. I am trying to figure out why I haven't asked him on the 100 other times I was in his shop.

Hey Bonebreak - great news.
Just thinkin' out loud - new check box for my engine installations - a fuel filter between the tank and the high speed needle valve. Somebody much smarter than me suggested that this would be a good "line break" for pluggin' in the fuel nozzle when I refuel the plane so make it accessible.

It's pretty common to have some stuff in the tank after a new installation. even when you're being very careful during the tank install it's pretty easy to leave some debris in the tank.
Bonebreak,
Next time you're in there tell Jim that Ken from Lawton said hi!!!

The Local Hobby Shop!
For all the times I want to tell posters, What did your LHS say about it? You did buy Locally, didn't you? -Oh then go ask your offshore retailer-
Thank-You, I've needed to get that off my chest this week. Support your local hobby shop, they are becoming hard to find.

Most fuel cap fitting kits used to draw the fuel, come with clunk filters, so are these slivers as he stated so small the filters won't catch it? Routinely I do shake my fuel if it's sat awhile, suspending container junk through the fuel. Bottom line, filters do an important job.

From what he stated, these slivers will pass through the filter. I have always had a fuel filter on my fuel jug. The issue I had was big enough to have me think that the engine was garbage. What little bit of whatever was in my carb made a 100% difference, and restored my faith in the engine. It was night and day. You will surely know if you have this problem just by the way the engine is performing (or not in my case).

I can't imagine anything getting through one of these. Maybe the slivers came from another source after the filter.
Some planes I don't use exhaust deflectors or filters on because they run so much better without them. When my clogs occur, I just remove the needle valve
and it flushes out on it's own. My symptoms are usually more severe.
If you haven't tried one of these filters, maybe it works better than the screen type.
