I see the sticky for the trainers up top, but in no means do I wish to hijack the thread so my question here is...... Im tossed up between Hobbico Avistar 40 II MonoKote ARF .40,59"
Hobbico SuperStar 40 MonoKote ARF .35-.46,60" and was wondering whats the difference from others point of view. Obviously I can read the descriptions.
I plan on getting both...errr one combo'd with an engine. The price difference is about eight bucks. They both come with the OS LA.46 engine. Thanks!

The 8' wingspan Telemaster could be flown with a .90 2-stroke:

As for the Hobbico Avistar and Superstar ARFs, they're practically the same plane. Buy whichever airplane you think has the nicest trim scheme.

Second on the Telemaster, I have an older 2meter span with a OS 91FX. It flys like a trainer.
It also carries and pulls gliders. It has nearly unlimited vertical TOO[>:]

I have had the Avistar, and it was a GREAT airplane. I loved it. You could do anythng with that plane once you increased the control throws. I might pick up another one once I get back in the states. You cant go wrong with the Avistar

The Hobbico Superstar is similar to the Tower Hobbies Trainer 40, flat airfoil. The Avistar has a semi-symetrical airfoil. It doesn't tend to float as much as the Superstar but flies great at all speeds.

The Avistar is better in the wind and more maneuverable when you increase the throws and move the CG back. The Superstar self corrects a bit faster and will land a touch slower. If it's normally windy where you fly, get the Avistar.

I'm still in the training phase but I bought the Avistar as a Third Airplane. I'm using it to learn to Align up better with the runway on approach. Thats my hardest thing. During the initial build I converted it to a tail dragger. helps in learning tail dragger take offs - since all my airplanes will most likely be a tail dragger.
My 4th airplane I'm wanting to build a Zero. Any suggestions which kit to buy?

The weather here in Michigan has been beautiful for the last few days. A bit breezy but sunny and t-shirt temperatures. I have been repainting my "Mobile RC Hanger" and should be done tonight. I will be ready for the summer tommorrow(sat). Forcast rain.-BW

Yes, beautiful temperatures and lack of cloud cover in Michigan the last few days, but a lot of guys have been absent from the field because of winds. The way I look at it, if you're not going to learn to fly in 15+ MPH winds, you're not going to spend a lot of time in the air in Michigan.

I recently bought an anemometer so maybe ill know what different flight characterisitics to expect in various conditions.....or maybe im just a nerd.

Being aware of the direction and intensity of the wind before and while you fly your model is not a nerdy thing, but good practice.
Most of the clubs have some form of wind indicator, like cups anemometer, wind sock, etc.
Best luck in your first flights!
