Default Hobbico Avistar Engine Mount Question

I am looking at buying the Hobbico Avistar Trainer with the Supertigre GS-45 engine, but wasn't sure if the .46 size engine will fit on the Avistar. Can anyone tell me if the engine will in fact fit on the Avistar?? Thanks.

The Avistar RTF comes with a OS 40 LA. Most 46's are the same size as the 40 LA.

A buddy of mine-jump in here if you read this, Ugo-has or had one with an OS .46FX in it. He built the wing flat and it was a great flier. Very decpetive since it doesn't have a flat bottom airfoil the way you think it should. Fast and aerobatic.

bgi, just an FYI, actually, most bearing equipped .40-.46 engines (such as the FX series) are larger than the .40 LA.

Okay - thanks. My bad! I popped a 46 FX into the Avistar after removing a 40 LA and it looked the same.

ciao

True dat! I didn't leave the FX in there for long. It kept asking to be installed in a better plane!

Default Hobbico Avistar Engine Mount Question

I have an OS46FX in my Avistar and it is great. While I don't have the skill for the moves yet, the owner of our local LHS flew it one time. He walked up and said "how many rubber bands do you have on that?" I said: "ten" He asked me if he could fly it for a little while. Well I bought it from in the first place so I figured he would be good for a replacement. He did moves I only think about. Rolling circles, snap rolls, etc. This went on for about 5 minutes and then he turned to me and said: "see I told you it could do more than most trainers." I admit, I was impressed.

Still have the plane with the same engine, it just needs a few repairs after our flunfly last week.

Default Hobbico Avistar Engine Mount Question

I had an Avistar with the 46 FX and a Macs Pre-Tuned Pipe on it. It would scream. I never clocked it with a gun, but an experienced flyer at the field said it was probably doing 70-80 MPH. I guess I was the proud owner of the worlds fastest trainer. This was the RTF version, I just swapped out the engine. I still have the Avistar, with a 46 SF in it, and a tower hobbies muffler. It does pretty good with this combo, but it isn't the same as the 46 FX with the tuned pipe. It was a blast to fly. I agree, it does way more than most trainers.

about 12 rubber bands, I'm converting to a bolt on wing, it will hover real nice, and does a nice hammer head to.

i use it as a fun flyer now, my stinger is the spped demon, clocked at 110+ mph, ugh i wanna go faster.

Geistware
I kept waiting for it to fail, but it never did. I have since taken the tuned pipe, and 46 fx off of it. It still flies great, just not as fast.

The 46 will fit and is a good choice for the avistar. You will need to shift the battery back quite a bit or add a little tail weight
