Hi I am Danny Gable, I was in the Air Force for 6 1/2 Years as an Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Specialist. Spent Time at March AFB, Ca., Osan AFB, Korea, Barksdale AFB Louisiana. Now that my life has slowed down a little I have been with the City of Muskogee Water distribution for the last 10 years and am currently the Water Superintendent. I have 2 airplanes in my Hangar 1) Hangar 9 Alpha 2) Sig Somethin' Extra currently using JR8103 on both aircraft. It is nice to be a part of RCU, I have visited other forums but frankly the ones that I have been to just cannot match RCU's quality...

Hi, Im Kevin VanDyk(formerly known on this forum as IbeKdog, but with the move and everything somthing got mixed up, so I just re registered.) Im 17years 11 months and 10 days old, live up in good old southwest michigan(go state!) and have been in this hobby for about a year. about this time last year I went to my local clubs meeting and asked about getting into the hobby and was almost overrun with people giving me advice and trying to help. I really wanted to build and one guy held a building class where he instructed a few of us in building an LT-40. my LT-40 has an os 46fx(soon to be floatplane) and jr equipment. I spent allllllll winter(winter lasts a long time here, in fact there really is no spring, it's just still winter) building and in june started flying. after a few weeks my instructor(the same guy who helped me build the plane) went to the nats(he flys combat) and while there was hit by a plane(thankfully he is fine with only a small scar), so we kinda had the month of july off. in aug we started over agian, and I re-learned quickly, and now I am going to solo next time out.

over the summer I worked on a spad Dirlect(combat plane, guess who suggested i build it?) and now that is ready to go, and over the winter(there really is no fall here either it's just almost winter) I plan to build a four star 40 and modify the turtledeck and build a cowl for it. So that should be fun, next summer i'm looking forward to lots of flying(hopefully i'll crash one of my spads to get the first crash out of the way, then it wont be so bad when i crash the four star[sm=biggrin.gif])

I also wanted to thank all you guys who post here and help all the new guys( even though it means aswering the same question once a week) you guys are a big help, thanks!

Im Clayton, 30 yrs old. I just got into the hobby after wanting to for the last 15 years. I have a Hanger 9 Extra Easy 2 that is ready to go to the field. I just moved this past week from a town of 200 (no place to fly) to Urbandale, IA (29,000 + 3 places to fly). I just stopped at the LHS and got the map of where to go and plan to get an instructor so I can learn to fly on my own.

I'm Bryan, 36 live in Carbondale Co. I saw some guy flying a RC plane and decided to "just do it". Searched Ebay for a month and bought a package of four planes... 2 large scale- 1/4 scale Citabria, 1/5 AT6, and a .60 size j3cub and a recently crashed GP Trainer .60. Bought a Hobbistar .60 and proceeded to crash that too. Looking at another. I'm a carpenter and love the hobby. But my girlfriend is understandably "concerned"... lol Hope to meet some of you someday.

Hi all my name is Cameron age 25, and I am quite green to R/C. I have only flown my Superstar 40 (os 40 la) a couple of times and am due for a solo before winter (i hope). I am a full time student (political science/law studies certificate/orginizational communication) and part time BMW/ MB quality control tech so my flight time/availability is limited. For this reason I higly recommend a simulator as they really speed things up!

I have become interested in diesel engines for R/C and have an Aurora .40 (check carlsonengineimports.com) and cannot wait to get it into the superstar (that .40 LA is LA-me)

Cant wait for my next diesel (probably a PAW) they are soooo much quieter (all model diesels) and have so much more character to boot!!!

Cheers!

Urbandale is a suburb of Des Moines. A bit far from Davenport.

Believe it or not, I used to live in Urbandale IA. Just off of Douglas Ave, not too far from Merle Hay rd.

hi my name is mike.I'm 53and a firefighter.Started fkying last fall and soloed after 4 lessons with my avistar with OS 46 La. I think the reason I soled so easily was because of flying online (red baron 3d) There"s a mode that is a lot like rc flying.

I'm Gary. I work on kc-135's at my job and with the national guard AND I've gotten into rc flying. Just a sucker for aviation!! Learned to fly on a mid-star and now I'm SLOWLY building a TF .60 corsair. I'm just about ready to start taking smaller steps. Always looking for flying/building tips but my rc time is limited due to a wife and 2 y/o daughter.

Hi, My names Tim, I'm a 29 year old police officer from Mass. After high school I did 4 years in the Marine Corps infantry as a machine gunner. I've been a cop for almost 6 years. I'm married, I have a two year old boy, and a little girl on the way around Christmas time. My wife gave me a firebird outlaw this past fathers day after telling me that she remembered I told her one time that I would have killed for a radio control plane when I was about 13 years old. I flew the heck out of the firebird for about a month when one morning I went to fly and I ran into a guy at the soccer field with his dura-plane and all his field equipment. I watched him fly, and the firebird somehow just didn't seem fun anymore. After talking to that guy about his plane and stuff, I found out he was a cop a couple of towns away. We are now pretty good friends, and he is my flying buddy.

For my birthday in the middle of this past August, my wife gave me G2 realflight, and my mother-in-law gave me a Hobbico Superstar Select, with all the field equip tower recommended. I've been having a blast with this hobby since then, and frequent this site often.

Welcome aboard Tim! Sounds like that wife of yours is a keeper!

PS, I'm sure the Navy will be happy to drop you guys off at the war of your choice. :D

Geez, I am not new, but feel like a newbie lately. I have not been on much lately because we have been flying 7 days a week at work and that hasn't left much time. Still trying to catch up.

I feel like a newbie, started this madness last March. I've got lots of help here and from friends who fly. I need a second job to pay for this hobby though, it ain't cheap! In fact, I figure I better get everything I need before I retire 'cause I won't be able to afford it then! I'm 61 and a pipe fitter/welder/mechanic in paper mill located in central Virginia. Go Hoos. I have a Stick 40 with OS .46LA, SPAD Deb with OS .46FX, Ultra Stick 120 with ST 3000. I usually have one flying and one in need of repair. Sometime two in need of repair. The US 120 has got to wait for flight pack before it gets airborn. See what I mean, it just goes on and on. MO money, MO money, MO money!!

Hello All,

Name is Mike, retired Navy CPO 20years, 13 days ()but didn't count). Relocated to Bay City Texas to work for a Chemical Company. Manage the warehouse (parts). Have alway had an interest in RC, started with cars while stationed in Iceland. Then other interest (diving, Boy Scouts, my sons. Once we moved here found myself with time at the end of the day that I could spend in front of the tube or something else. Found a field, met some great people, bought my first plane. A Hanger 9 ALPA trainer. First flight was last Sunday. Did 4 flights, 3 takeoffs, and 1 not so good landing. Some damage to the aft secion of the fusalage. Spent this week putting the pieces back together. On charger right now will be back at the field tomarrow. Also bought a second plane a H9 cessna, and field bax with box of goodies, Also have real flight sim to help me learn. Us old dogs need all the help we can muster.

Blue Skies, no rain...
Mike

RE: Let's meet the new guys!

Hello there. I'm Al. At the end of November I am retiring after 31 years in law enforcemnt. As I have a supreme fear of boredom, I decided to take up R/C flying. I told my wife (AKA - She Who Must Be Obeyed) the great lie: flying models would be cheaper than learning to fly 1:1 scale planes.
I am brand new to the hobby. My skill level is such that my wife wants to know if I can save money by buying Aerobird wings by the gross. I've put together my Alpha Trainer but have not yet tried to fly it. I have a 75.5" wingspan Corsair (and they call it ARF) that is still in the box. If I try to build it, I might try to fly it.
My goal is to be able to fly large warbirds and to be able to build planes from wood kits and even from plans.

MinnFlyer 10-06-2003 09:04 AM

RE: Let's meet the new guys!

It's not a lie Al. It's cheaper than Golf too! ( I know, I do BOTH!)

RE: Let's meet the new guys!

Names Don....40 Years young (LOL) I'm heavily into static models (1/48 scale A/C and 1/24 scale cars). My Brother in Law gave me an ARF (Avistar 40) plus the radio and engine for my birthday. I think he thinks it'll keep me out of trouble.

I'm an ISP Collections Agent in Central NJ and have just gotten my membership to the AMA and will be attending my first club meeting this Wednesday night. I'm hoping that I'll be able to go out and fly this weekend (at least get the engine broken in and get a few taxi's out of her).

I'm very impressed with the quality of the Avistar. If I can fly it alright, I might just stick to high wing models. I love the Cessna 182 I saw in my first copy of Tower Hobbies Catalog.........

Hi, my name is Rich and I happened upon this forum while surfing the web. Im new to the flying aspect of RC but I have been into RC for many years and Im having a blast flying! I learned on an Alpha trainer and now fly the "stick" and enjoy this plane alot. Ive done boats, cars, trucks, motorcycles so I figured it was time to take the plunge and try planes. After practicing on a computer flight sim and having an instructor take me up once, I soloed and surprised myself. I must admit, I was leary of planes due to seeing a few crash while watching others fly. It happens no matter how good you are so, just go with the flow and enjoy the hobby. This is an excellent forum and I will be checking back often.

Well I'm not new but thought I would introduce myself anyway. I am the senior moderator on this site and that keeps me hopping but I still find time for this great hobby. I have been in it since 1954 when I flew my first gas powered plane, a U/C that my step Father bought me for my b'day. since that day there has been no turning back and have built and flown everything from rubber powered to U/C and free flight. I got into R/C back in the 70's and that's all I fly now. I am retired law enforcement (early on a medical) and have been building custom planes for people for quite awhil but have quit doing it as I wasn't getting any planes built for myself.[:o] I try and get to most of the forums and love to help out the new ones to the hobby and you can find me lurking at all hours here, so welcome to all of you.

So please help me out, by introducing yourselves. Tell me a little about yourself, and post a pic if you like.

And Welcome to RCU!
My name is jason, and I'm 30-something.

I work for one of the R/C land model manufacturers, so I get to do electric/nitro-related stuff every day. (Yes, it's a cool job!) Many of my "cow-orkers" fly as well as drive R/C.

I've always wanted to fly models, so a coupla months ago I started setting aside money for a radio and bought a Hitec Eclipse w/Spectra. I figured that should hold me for a while, and also give me the flexibility to use whatever FM RX I ran across.

Right now I'm just flying FMS with the Eclipse, getting used to those models that I intend to buy. I bought a copy of RealFlight and it's on the way, too.

I've started a webpage with this info on it; it's [link=http://www.mousetrap.net/~mouse/rc/air.html]in the framework stages[/link], but since you asked...
