This is my LT-40 that I am just about done building. this is my first plane as well as my first build. It has OS .46 ax, Futaba 6exa radio. It is not perfect by any means but I am proud of it.

RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
Here is my newly acquired (used) Phoenix Classic 40. I got it for $100 AUD with a near new O.S 46 MAX AX.
Just installed all new Radio gear and servo's. Filled the tank, primed it attached the glow starter and flipped it over and it fired and ran instantly. Probably a bit overpowered for this age aircraft, but I will just try and refrain from full throttle til I learn to fly :P http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/...s/lg-46609.jpg |

OK, I wasn't going to do this but you all have forced me to show you what a real trainer look like.....this is a free flight bird. She is sittin on my glove as I type this...one fingered:D Flying weight is 3.2# Falconry is my other love.......

RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
Buteos -- Love the redtail. They are great flyers and a joy to hunt with. Falconry is another sport that still holds my attention but with family and work don't allow me to pursue at this time. I hunted with mine for about 15 years.
Good luck. My trainer is still in the box waiting to start construction - LT-40 this weekend. |

Wow, talk about digging up old threads. I guess since I never posted before, I'll post some now
First one is a Great Planes Trainer .60 that is about 10 years old, the next is a Right Flyer 40 Mark II ARF that I picked up after I flew my Eagle II into the tree at the end of the runway. Can't find any pics of the Eagle, but she was Black and Silver. Looked really good. the last one was my Four Star 40 that I built for my first low wing trainer. I still have the GP Trainer 60, and I'm considering building two engine pods on the wings to make it into a twin-trainer. The Right Flyer 40 is still ready to fly hanging up in the shop. Unfortunately, after all the time I spent on the covering on the Four Star, she only lasted about 50 flights before I dumb-thumbed her into the trees. I was flying inverted, too far away from me, and too close to dusk and lost orientation. Full throttle into the trees on the far side of the field. Not much left. Fortunately all the radio gear and engine survived intact. Seems that the trip through the branches shreaded the plane, and slowed it down enough before it impacted the ground. |
RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
I have seen that Hawk do things that no man will ever do with or while in a plane but if I can learn to fly half as good as she does then I will have accomplished something special. She is amazing to watch and an honor to hunt with.......as I said, "The Original Warbird!"

RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
Nice looking birds Connery! Looks like you have excellent building skills. How do you like the Right Flyer?
I'm building a PT-60 and I'm now covering the fuselage; the wing is all done. Still have lots of work to do to complete it. The engine is a SuperTigre .61 Ringed that has never been started so I have a bunch to do there as well. Hope mine comes out looking half as good as yours. -K01S [8D] |
RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
The Right Flyer it a pretty sturdy plane. I was flying her inverted showing off for my neice and brought her in too low. The balsa sheeted foam core wings broke in half when it hit the ground full throttle. And that's ALL the damage there was. I glue the wings back together and had her flying the next day.
I think I will build another 4 Star, except this time it'll be a .60. Just so I'll have another fun plane to through around. My current aerobat is a Seagull Extra 330S. It's all up weight is 6 lbs, and I've got a Saito FA-100 on it. Unlimited vertical. My 3D trainer is a little Tower Hobbies Fun-51 that I enlarged the control surfaces, put the elevator and rudder servos in the tail, and put a Magnum .52XLS 2 stroke on it. I can give it full throttle just holding it and it'll climb straight up. But before I do another 4*, I've got to finish my TopFlite P-47, and a Goldberg Ultimate biplane. |

Wow, that's a lot of airplanes! Good luck with them and have lots of fun, fun, fun! - K01S [8D]

RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
I am guessing Photoshop. That looks like a very well built TF DC3, but I am pretty sure they do not make 'em that big.

Here it is, a couple of days later.
I bought an O.S. 46 FXi, and mounted it on the plane. The servo's are in too, but I need another one. But that will come with the radio, that should be in the store next week! I closed the carb, because my dad is affraid that there will be lots of dust in the engine. Do I need to buy an airfilter and fuel-filters for my plane? Thanks, Tom |
RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
I asked the guys at the field about filters and they all agreed that you should run fuel and air filters. Your engine will last a lot longer if it doesn't have to grind sand and grit in the bearings and piston sleeve etc. There is no way I would ever run without them, but I do notice that a lot of people don't bother with air filters. Everyone does however run fuel filters.
I recently bought a fitting set for a fuel bottle and that has a filter for fuel leaving the fuel can to the tank on the plane and when you empty the plane it is filtered again. Only takes a tiny bit of sand or other debris to block or obstruct the high end needle etc on the carb. They arent expensive and last a long time so cheap insurance. |
RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
OK Thanks!
On my club they don't use them, but I think it's a good thing. I'm going to get some tomorrow or so... Tom |

Here's the ol' Tower Trainer. I don't have any pics of the NexStar, or my low-wing Trainer the Dragon Lady because the digital cam was stolen.[>:]

RE: post pics of your trainer planes!
I hear both yes & no opinions on the fuel filter, just depends who you're asking. So I went & took the middle road. I installed the fuel filter in the fuel dot/tank filler line. That way my fuel is getting filtered as it is being put into the tank, but I run a straight feed fuel line from tank to carb. This way if the thing gets clogged up on me I will know it immediately when fueling or unfueling the airplane instead of finding out my fuel filter just got clogged up in mid air. Here's my trainer.
http://wraith78.home.mchsi.com/Edge540t-4.JPG . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Okay, just kidding. :D However, in all truthfullnes, I did learn on this. http://wraith78.home.mchsi.com/midstar.jpg Didn't have the benefit of a high-wing trainer. Couldn't afford it, so a friend sold me the Mid-Star real cheap. I have since graduated to the Edge and she's a blast to fly! I've still never flown a trike. |
