Heyhey,
I was just curious and just for laughs, what was the highest temperature that you found your engine in? I found mine around 322F on a very hot day when it usually ran 260F tops[X(].. how about ya?

I think probably over 350F on my old TRX 2.5, not temp guage confirmed but when the head starts letting out more smoke than the exhaust, then you know its bad[&:]

Ive hit 350degreesF on my STS D28M, massive airleak through the LSN.
Somone on Sava Central (another RC site) recorded 400degreesF on his D28M, very same air leak.

way over 400 on a picco 21maxx,front bearing leak, all the temp gauge could read was high!!!!took 10 mins to finnally start reading in the low 400's.still have the engine and it runs decent after the front bearing replacement

R9 brags about hitting over 410 on a D21B (engine he got for free and why he became a STS Dealer), and it still lived on for several gallons.

Such a pity, if he mailed to me the burnt up hulk, I'm pretty sure I could have rebuilt it and got it back to running order with a rebuild and a properly machined carb.

how much do you guys think an engine (say... STS .30 or picco .28, something in that area) can take before completely blowing up in your face? Im guessing ~500F?

That's one of the main reasons it's good to have at least a little Castor in your fuel...it keeps going until around 475 or so...where it finally starts burning, but a synthetic might start burning at a substantially lower temp.

ah dim i wouldn't think so lol, once the engine starts getting hot the metals get soft and ware out/deform more rapidly, highest i'v had an engine is about 330 F with a TRX 3.3, brakes, well the breaks were letting off smoke from the glue in the semi metallic pads and no longer working (brake fade) so i'd say pretty hot.

ok, how about to all that we add a high efficiency cooling system? that should do the trick? running around 300F with custom conrod and 30/16 mix?

oh comeon, how about when cooling the engine down to 250F? and making a titanium conrod? that should probably handle it, right?

300F in a force.26
leaking backplate(starter shaft)
and leaking front bearing
i think i got my tires around 120 of so from running on the street

erm no dim, it's not just the con rod, the crank pin, king pin, crank bearings, starter shaft (one way bearing overheating) thats gonna cause problems then lol, a plane engine will go all day non stop at full throttle, you want something to flog the hell outa all day drop an O.S FL-70 or something in ya XB8.

I've been wondering how fast a Serpent 950R might go with a .91 ducted fan engine in it!?
25,000 r.p.m. sustained, with almost 5 REAL horsepower...hmmm...
Edit: let's see if this link works? http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_52...tm.htm#5234395
Might be wrong thread...but I didn't want to start a new one just for a random thought...
Edit #2: Yep...the link works...
There are some serious kick ***** engines there in case anyone's interested.

i made a post a while back about this http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5943725/tm.htm
i had a hot bodies .26 like to run in the 370-380's and it would sit there, no air leak tunes was rich, everything was fine, it just liked to run real hot, lasted about 6-7gallons of fuel with those temps. not for my traxxas 2.5 well over 400, to the point the carb melted closed.
my new k4.6 has been in the 330's, and as high as 383. but now i got her tamed with sealed, and re tuned she is puring at 240.
