Recently installed a CEN rotostart kit to my Genesis and its become a real pig to start. The only way i can get it going is to pour a small amount of fuel into the carb air intake. Once its running its fine and starts easily once warmed up, i've put carb back to factory settings but it will not start without the extra fuel from cold any ideas please?. Also i noticed that the rotostart would slip i.e the engine wasn't turning as much as it should so i stripped the rotostart down and cleaned the oneway bearing on the back of the crank. This fixed the problem for a few runs but now its slipping again any ideas on this problem please?
Despite all these little niggles shes an absolute monster when she goes
and much better now i've removed the extra shocks, dropped the body right down and put a decent set of radio gear in(Graupner/JRxs3)

i dont have a gen, but i have heard of a few leaky one way bearings on the engine, that may be causing it to slip, and when u cleaned it that may have temporarily cured it.
as for the fuel in the carb - my os did this after being stood for a couple of weeks, it turned out to be simply some gumbed up fuel residue in the high peed needle sleeve, kin of a sticky fuel bogey! it would run if i did the same as u to get it started, but then it ran lean once going and warm, so be careful u dont burn the engine out - if thats whats happening.
sorry i cant be of any more help mate - good luck!

Hey blinko,
I have had the same problem with my genesis. I had a roto start but the thing fried so a reverted back to the pullstart. Somtimes I would get no resistance in the cord whatsoever and sometimes it would catch. So I took the back plate off the motor where the one way shaft meets the crank shaft on the piston. There is a spring and a pin that fits in the shaft of the piston that engauges when you pull the cord. My spring had fallen into 3 pieces allowing it to catch some of the time, but it was a pain. I called cen and the warranty covered it. It is very easy to install, look at the manual for the part I am talking about (G70357-11). I think useing the rotostart caused this part to go bad.
Good luck

If you look at where the bearing is you will understand that you can get a small amount of leakage from the engine onto the axel the one way bearing sits on, this in turn land on the bearing.
Now if it is warm outside you will not get a problem but as soon as it gets cold outside the oil that has seaped out from the axel (not much only a small amount) will become thicker, THUS causing the bearing to stick and you will not get any resistance on the pull cord.
This is why now and then you should remove the bearing and clean it from all of the oil. Then i assure you this will be the end of the problem.
As to the rotostart.... i have one on my savage...
I release the glow plug half a turn and only fire up the roto start to a max of 5 seconds, then i stop and then i continue. if you keep it on for too long the DC current will fry the switch. I also have a small pump in my fuel line that i pump a little to make sure i get the fuel i need. After a short time i have it going, then i remove the glow starter and tighten the glow plug.
As long as you do not rush things and take it easy starting it up you will get the hang of it.

You could, if your still going to use the roto start, hold your finger over the stinger on the exhuast..When you see the fuel hit the carb, let go, should fire right up.

If i put my finger over the exhaust outlet the fuel does not flow in the fuel line unless i open the throttle a bit. I do not have the throttle set to shut the engine down as once started the motor idles fine. Should i clean the one way bearing out with thinners or should there be a small amount of lubrication left?

Bilko,
Here is what you want to do. Clean your one-way bearing along with the back plate and back plate shaft. Then before putting the one-way bearing back onto the shaft, apply some grease to the shaft where it enters into the back plate. What this does is block oil from getting on the the one-way bearing, and dettering it from slipping. This will stop your one-way bearing from slipping while providing the neccessary lubrication.

Thanks CEN will do, just stripped and cleaned the carb out and the engine started very easy
so thanks go to poor judgement for that one
. I must admit i didn't use it for a month or so as i got a FG MT, i thought the Genesis was just sulking lol.
