PLLLLEEEEAAASSSEEEE Help. Just finished breaking-in my Genesis (14th tank by now) and the thing just does'nt shift to 3rd gear.
It is 8 & 1/2 turns out already. Motor is pretty lean -HSN 3 & 1/4 turns out.
It shifts to 2nd at around 25-35 feet from standstill (I think that is good).
Crying out to Jadda, Jected, Aluminum C, Genesis Twin and all those expert folks out there.
I also broke both sides of the steering link to the steering rods (tirnbuckles) on 2 separate tiny jumps. That really sucks b/c if that happened with such a tiny jump by going from street to grass, can't imagine what'll happen at the track... any suggestions as to what is fragile and might as well replace it for a better thing before it breaks?
Thanks all.

Hi abonnet.
Are you sure that it is second gear it shift to? not third? Do like this: Screw the set screws all the way in on the 3rd gear clutch, then test drive your truck and see if you are hitting second gear. If it shifts into second then start to tune for third gear a good starting point should be 7 turn out, but must important is that you unscrew both screw equal.
I think new era has an option for the steering link check it.

Jadda,
I appreciate your thoughts. I will test it like you suggest. I am pretty sure it shifts into second as it seems that there is a point were the motor is revving to its max and the truck is not going faster... my guess is it only reaches around 25-30 mph. How fast do you think a Genesis should go? or, easier for you, how fast do you think yours goes?
I have purchased the aluminum steering link by New Era. Thanks for that too. I'll let you know how it performs.

I'm having the same problem. I took the advice and tightened up the 3rd speed set screws, but now I don't hear it shifting at all...does seem more agressive thou
. I was going to work on the 2nd speed screws first, then windout the 3rd speed screws after I get it to shift into second. Rotostart died, give me an hour to test it out.[:@]

I'm not sure what it's doing now. I use to hear it shift, it would kind of jerk then take off, now it just runs right through without any hint of shifting. I turned in the 3rd gear screws all the way, and started working on the 2nd gear screws. 1 turn, 2 turns, 3 turns, 4 turns, doesn't seem to make a difference. I left it at 4 turns out, done for the day since I kissed a tree and broke a suspension arm. I'll work on it tomorrow, fortunately the local store has one in stock. BTW, which is better for racing, the plastic stock or the aluminums that new Era models have?

jigga, mine shifts to second just fine. I called CEN and they told me the following: Wind in the screws for second and third gear all the way. Wind out 4 turns on the second gear screws. Run it, hear it shift. If it doesn't, adjust up or down until you hear it shift to second. Once second is set, now start wrokgin on the thrid gear by the same process starting with 7 turns out.
Definitely the new era arms are much better but also more than twice as expensive; your choice.

i had a similiar problem. i dropped my genesis off at debbies rc world and had them look at it. he adjusted the gearing and still couldnt get it to shift into third. i brought the monster home and ran it and it hit third..i will say one thing, the transition from 1st to 2nd gear is very loud and noticable, from 2nd to 3rd is not. you can just hear the engines rpm drop and it continue to grab speed.. just gotta listen very closely, specially with stock muffler. hope this helps out.

I have the same problem (or had - its currently out of action)
Didnt seem to select 3rd gear, but I wasnt sure of how to adjust, so had left it for later.
Just checking. For adjusting, your talking about the little grub screws in the centre of the 1/2 round GS068?
These are the little screws that push on the little steel balls next to the drive shaft?
Providing that I have that correct, what the preload you have to put on the little buggers on the sides of the 1/2 round clutch things (the screws with the springs in them)?
