sounds like you pulled the cord too far and broke the spring.... you have to take apart the pull start and replace the unit or the spring.. Its probably easier to replace the whole pull starter because it comes complete... You have to be very careful not to extend the cord more than about a foot... short quick pulls work better than long pulls...

dawg turn the flywheel by hand and it will pull it back in. i havent used the pullstart on my matrix, ive
got several starter boxes. but that happens with a lot of pullstarts, try not to pull it out no more than
you have to

I tried to turn the flywheel by hand, but to no avail it would not go in. So today I took the pullstarter off and noticed that the string had broken the plastic and pulled threw. I attempted to fix it but the coiled spring came out. I put the coil spring back and retied the pullstarter string. Wouldn't you know it! the cover that holds the coil unit tight broke, so now i'm really up the creek. I either need a new pullstarter unit, rotor starter or a starter box. I'm leaning towards a starter box. Would I need different motor mounts to lower the motor so that the flywheel would work with the starter box? And which starter box should I buy?

P.S. need to get to the track, thanks for your help.

Buy a rotor starter and not a starter box.
