CT5 steering problem

when i turn my wheels left or right, the wheels dont line back up straight. when i turn the wheel left and then let go, the wheels return to a place where they are slightly off to the left, and when i go to the right and let go, they return slightly off to the right. what am i doing wrong? thanks in advance for any info

don't thinkit's aa steering problem. Think that the servo's that come with the ct5 are crap. try lubing up the ball joints top and bottom. i used some grease on them and it works alittle better. also when u retighten the allen bolts don't over tigheten the screws. after all that i upgraded the radio

yeah my CT4S does the exact same thing, i've changed the servo's to Futaba 3003's but it still does it and they don't have any teeth of nothing missing either. The ball joints seem to be fine aswell.

yeah my CT4S does the exact same thing, i've changed the servo's to Futaba 3003's but it still does it and they don't have any teeth of nothing missing either. The ball joints seem to be fine aswell.

in my car, the problem was the steering posts and horns. the bushings and the posts appear to be worn, and it has a lot of play when you hold the servo stationary. I'm disappointed since the car isnt that old and hasnt had much abuse. I didnt see any upgrades on CEN's site for this. Does anyone know of an upgrade from another car that would last longer and work better? Something with ball bearings would be ideal.

I am going to measure my bushings off my steering posts and see if I can't find a bearing small enough to replace them. THats probabaly your best bet. And while you are using the bushings its best to keep them well lubed with some grease.

will you please post the measurements when you get them? i can probably get bearings from eBay with the proper outer diameter and width and cut some new posts out of some tubing from the hardware store.

The measurements are (Outside diameter)x (inside diameter)x(thickness) in mm
8x5x2.5
Its a bit of an oddball size, the only ones i saw on ebay were from the UK.

iirc the 5x8x2.5 bearings are the same size as ur clutch bearings. replacing the bushings with some of these should help a fair bit.

I had the same problem with my CT5 and it turns out the outer ball joint binds with the ball, I changed the open style ball joint to the closed type and the problems solved.

MT guys have long been swapping ALL bushing with ball bearing,, SEALED is the way to go. ebay seller TEAM BLUESTAR sells very nice sealed bearings. not sure if they have a CT4/CT5 package. but im sure if you got all the sizes you need and let them know, im willing to bet they ll make a package up for ya, i got a set for my Emax for 20.00 and 4 ship.... when i do mine, im doing them ALL.. every bearing in the car will be replaced and all busings will now become screw spacers when needed.. I HATE BUSHINGS. the only way i would use a bushing is if i had it machined or found it made of brass!!!! or its friday at 3pm, and i dont wanna drive for 30 min each way for a 3.00 part....
i ll look to my CT5 for this issue, but i havent noticed it yet. the minute i do. Bearing time. At that time I ll also swap radios and load it with a new JR RS310 Rx and USE my JR XS3 Pro Tx.. though i may like the anti lock feature of the stock controller, i dont think i ll have an issue if i dont have it. maybe the XS3 has it, time do dig up the manual again..lol

took the ct5 out today for the first time to a new lot. absolutely NO steering issues what so ever except the intial trimming of tx to get it going strait, and while still the servo moves the tires but a bit slower than it should, i ll probaby put a Hitec 5645 in it. no need for a JRZ9000T in this guy. those lil tires will move smooth and easy with the 5645... or 5945 if i gotz a few extra pennies..... i did however have some Major range issues. see post in cen raceing forum for that.. Skiyon Tx/Rx issues.

I'll have to take pictures tomorrow (camera's down right now) look at the outter steering ball joint connected to the hub you'll notice you can see the phillips head. Follow that to the linkage in the center and you'll notice the other ball joint snaps on the ball. Replace the out style with the inner style and you should be good to go, if it's still binding just pop it off and on acouple of times and you should be set.

thanks todd, ill see what i can do. i almost sold this baby of the weekend, so ill have to put the dx2 equipment back in and give it a shot.
