Default gst 7.7 ? about fuel

I bought my GST a couple of months ago and i email cen support to get a fuel recommendation and they confirmed the Byron's 30% mitro 11% oil so thats what i bought to break her in. During break-in i richened 1/2 turn from where it was stock then proceeded with break-in. On my sixth tank (last break -in tank) i started 1/2 throttling and then would temp and i was already running at 230 and that a 1/2 turn out from stock. so i left it there and started running alittle harder which sustained a even 240 until my tank started getting empty then it retard leins out. I bought the NOVA head for it which help out a bunch but im wondering if the 30% nitro with only 11% oil is hard on that motor. Should i change fuels and if so what do you guys suggest. I live on the texas coast so im less than 50' above sea level which i know liens out alittle more but its also 80% humidity all year.

thanks,

After break-in put that temp gun away. Tune it on performance and nice trail of blue smoke from pipe. Most MT motors can handle 30%. Tuning by temps will drive you insane, because of all the variables that come into play.

Hi,

I do not get any of the said ready fuels here in India. We got to make our own nitro fuel.
Was just wondering if 11% oil is enough for lubricating the engine?
I fly airplanes and helis too, for that i mix 18% oil with 20% nitro. But 11% for trucks is'nt it very low? Will the engine not heat up?
BTW i use Klotz!

i have tried a few different fuels out there and byron 20/12 none of the motors liked it. i would get sputtering and always would overheat the engine or stall the engine( too rich). it was a hard fuel to tune for me, the one i currently use is sidwinder 20/12, i put it in and set the needles and havent touched them since.
if you want to go to a lower nitro content its just like breaking in the engine again, you need to do the procedure all over again.

good luck and i hope this helps you.

When you change %s you do not have to re breakin. You will have to retune, but breakin is so the parts can go thru their heat cycles and wear in, once they are broken in, there is no need to do it again until you rebuild with new piston & sleeve.

It sounds to me like the motor is temping perfect... I ussually just fatten the bottom past flush and raise the idle a hair- 240 is totally acceptable for that motor

PS: If I have one cookie and you have one cookie and we both exchange our cookies, we'll still land up having only one cookie each. But where as if i have one idea and you have one and when we both exchange our ideas, we'll land up having two ideas each.

What say???????????????????

I don't think it's a matter of people not wanting to help you. Most have no need to mix their own fuel. You may want to search for fuel and I'm sure you will find some help. Good luck in your quest. Why can't you get pre-mix nitro there ?

Airplane fuel uses a lot more oil than truck fuel. This is because airplanes are meant to be run at full throttle for long periods of time, where as trucks go from high throttle to low throttle all the time. 11% oil is normal for truck fuel. And usually 20% - 30% nitromethane and the rest methanol.

Hi Notch, Dustin7837 & Nomobux,

Thanks for all your help. I am running in my GST now so i've mixed 15% oil, later after running in I will reduce it to 11% as Dustin7837 suggested.
We dont get ready fuel here in India because of the problems in importing the fuel. As this contains Nitro and its not allowed in airparcel / flight, we have to relay only on surface shipping and surface shipping will take 3 months and even the retailer of the oil puts a condition that if we buy a minimum of 12 gallons then only he'll ship it. And moreover Surface shipping to India i've heard thers lot of missing or lost in transit cases because there's no tracking of the shipment. Ofcourse, 1 or 2 of hobby shops in India is selling imported fuel (morgan or traxxas) but each quart bottle is sold of Rs.2000/- equilant of US$45/- So whenever possible if any of my friends are returning from US or Singapore i request them to get me Morgan or Kllotz synthetic oil for me. And it is not restricted in flight because its oil and not flamable nitro. With the synthetic oil sourced, we buy Methonal and Nitro in the local labs here and mix our own fule, thats the reason i asked help in mixing fuel. Methonal costs Rs.300/- for two and half liters close to US$6.5 and Nitro Methane cost Rs.800/- for half a litre close to US$17.00/-.

Thanks for all the help from everybody and sorry for being rude in the begenning.

Regards,

Adarsh

No need to say you're sorry. You were just frustrated at no response. Things are slow right now and it just took a bit to get some replies. Keep us posted on your new truck.

Boy .. that puppy really balloons the tires. Looks like really fine dirt, change / clean the filter often. Looks like you are enjoying the GST.

Not sure how big motorcycles are over there, but you can use motorcycle foam filter oil with no problems. With the dusty conditions you have, you may also want to switch to a 2 stage filter that has an outer prefilter, you buy a couple of prefilters and wash/oil them and your main filter will last a long time.

Adarsh, I live in the Sonoran Desert In Arizona. I Had A huge Problem with dust and my airfilter(cleaning it after every run) When I moved the air filter forward(right behind the front shock tower) I found myself forgetting to clean the airfilter, having to clean it every 6 -7 runs. Here are pictures of the simple mod I did that changed the way my truck got fresh air!

I also added a couple of shots of my swaybar installation on the front suspension. (3.5MM in The Front And 4MM In The Rear Seems To Work Very Well)

I hope this helps!!!Have Fun!!!!

So whats the best % nitro do you guys recommend for the GST ? I thought I saw on the CEN site that they said the 7.7 should be run with 30%, is that correct?

I've decided that i'll not run my truck in my field ever after. As you all know and have seen the field in the above pics, its fine dust/mud. One run, and man your rest of the evening is out cleaning the truck. So from now on, i'm going to run it only on grass, asphalt or where ther's no much mud like a hard surface or something.

So whats the best % nitro do you guys recommend for the GST ? I thought I saw on the CEN site that they said the 7.7 should be run with 30%, is that correct?

Scott (future GST owner)
I use 20% nitro (home made brew) and its running goood. Got to try with 30%!!!!!!!! (Well, with half a litre of nitor costing US$45/- i would be forced to use only 10 or 20 percent [])
