I'm new to these and this is my first truck. It was broken in and I was on my 7th tank and tuning it some. It was kind of wet out and the truck was getting a little wet at times. I was getting it so it was really starting to run good and it was pretty fast. I was playing around on a mound and jumping it some but not very high at all...maybe a foot or 2 off the ground. After one jump it seemed to all of a sudden slip bad and wont go!?! If I give it some gas it will just start to go slow even though the engine winds up. If I lift it off the ground and gas it, it will spin the tires up but then with a load on it it wont go...just slips. I don't think I heard any grating, didn't sound like gears so all I can think is that maybe something with the clutches?
I haven't tried to pull it apart yet...I was going to let it cool and dry and then clean it up and take a look at it. But, I really don't know what is most likely or where to start?
Thanks

Check to see if the drive shafts entering the front and rear diffs are spinning well when it seems to be slipping, one of the most common things on these is the grub screw that is supposed to be lined up on the pinion shaft is not on the flat of the pinion shaft and when the thread "breaks" loose you will experience a slipping.
Take a look!!

Alright, I started cleaning it off some and looking at it. I think that the truck is 'unloading' on the front wheels and they are not spinning. I can hold one front tire and the front driveshaft and thurn the other tire separate. It feels like there's no gears left in the front diff with when I turn the front right tire and it catches some with the front left tire but also slips a lot. It feels like it blew the front diff?
Is that how it would feel if the front pinion had moved back?
Thanks guys

That really shocks me if it broke the diff already. I wasn't even beating on it that hard and it was just small jumps messing around...it didn't hit anything hard at all. I sure hope they don't all break that easy.
I'll take it apart and get some pics...probably just take a little while because I've never had one of these apart before.

Well I just started to pull it apart some. I pulled to two rear wheels and pulled to pin/bolt so that I could drop the bearings/housings down and pull the two drive shafts out of the differential. I feel fairly confident that I have found the problem haha. I've added a couple pics of the damage.
I am really surprised that this broke like this, for one, so soon and two, under such a relatively easy driving...at least compared to what I read about people on here doing with them! I really hope they don't all break this easy. I was just getting it tuned up good and getting on it for maybe 10 min at most before it broke!
What is the best way to go about removing the diff? I'm assuming I have to take the whole rear end section of the truck off and tear it down?
Thanks

I see how the rearend comes apart from the rest of the truck. I took out the 6 screws that hold it to the frame rails and pulled the rear main shaft out. Now I just have to get the differential out of the rearend. I'm just not sure yet how much I have to tear it apart to actually get it out lol...I would prefer to not take apart far more than I have to!
Lucky for me, I had purchased several spare parts off of ebay and a new differential was one of them...maybe i'll be back and running tomorrow!

you pretty much have to take the whole rear end apart in order to get the diff apart there is no fast way to get it out. like dog said take your time and learn your truck so you dont mess anything up

I pretty much ended up taking apart the whole rearend like TrRCER said. No big deal really, just the first time I've had one of these apart...but pretty straight forward. Had rearend section apart, new diff installed and the rearend reassembled in about 1 hour. Now I just have to bolt the rear back to the truck and put the tires back on it...should be done in another 1/2hr. I'll have it back out tomorrow and see if I can break the new one I guess.
Is it possible to get that part and rebuild that differential? It looks like the piece that broke would be part number GS029. I have not attempted to take the broken diff apart yet. Is it worth the hassle, or easier to just buy a new one?
Thanks

Yes that is the Part # and yes you can order them from [link=http://www.cenracingdirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=292]CENracingdirect.com[/link]
And for $16 + shipping you will have a spare!!
When you get to opening the Diff Be sure to us heat to "Melt" The Locktight to get the screws out. be sure you use a good Hex Drive and not the Bent Allen Wrenches tha come in the kit. Use a Good Quality Hex Driver!! Be sure the hex driver is fully inserted before attempting to "Break" the screw loose..
Hope This Helps
