Default is my Gst 7.7 really this slow?

Hey guys,

I have recently pruchased a GST 7,7, and it seams very slow and sluggish. Witth the diffs locked, 25% Odonnel race nitro, and LC-3 glow plaugs (recemendation of LHS) I cannot even get it to do one wheelie. when I go to lean out the top end, it then starts to stumple and cuts out, likes it is runnign lean, so I turn it back and it returns to driveability. 2nd gear coems in aroound 15 feet, and is 2,5 turns out. 3rd gear is 8.5 turns out and never comes on, but this woudl be expected if engine is not runnign optimally.

So I have basically read this forum over a few times, and cannot figure out what is wrong. the only thing I notice is that my idle screw setting results in much larger an openign than 1mm, perhaps 3. but when I lower it, it will not hold the idle. the idle is curenlty a bit loopy.

My brother suggested, turnign idle way down, even if it won't hold and then lean out overall needle and go from there.

any ideas??? shouldn't this thing be pullign wheelies all kinds? the top speed is about same as a savage, but seems liek it never gets into third.

coudl it be the idle setting? culd it be that glow plug, should I try os 8? ( mention that becasue if I run WOT for say 5 passes, it starts to loose power, poerhpas glow plug is to hot).I hear people tralk about exhaust leaks, can't see how this woudl cause porblem, but I did notice my seal is a bit torn, however, it does not seem to leak at all.

thanks in advance for all the help!! other than that, and small collision tonight, very happy with the truck and its size and rigidity.

no, looks normal, I little play in it but normal. when 5 turns out, it shifts into secodn almost right away, now it takes a few seconds maybe 15 feet. at least I think it is seconda :S what is top speed of third? right now it probably does 35-40 mph I woudl say. The engine just doesnt seem to wind out.

took antoher look at cluth bell, it is slightly brownish by the vented openings. ALso, my brakes seem to be messed up, even if I adjust them all the way out, they still lock up some times with no pressure from servo, then other times works smoothly.

You typically wont hear 1st-2nd shift since 1st is only used to get the truck moving, then you will hear 2nd-3rd shift after you have ru up the speed abit, maybe out 100-150 or so maybe less just depends on how it is set!

Alittle brownish color on the clutchbell is normal for a truck that has been thru acouple gallons, but if your truck is brand new then you most likely have a binding issue going on. If your brakes seem to be sticking, that would definitely cause a binding issue. I would check your drive train thouroughly just to be sure

oh yeah, dont expect the engine to wind out like smaller nitro engines, it just dosn't.

Keep us posted on what you find

so maybe I am hiting third? haha, when I lossned up the 2nd gear screws it did shift later, doing the 3rd gear does nothing. the shift happens abotu 15 feet out. no way near 150 :S So then 1st eghar is taking me to 15 feet or so, manually says 25-30, but no way at WOT.

I am gonan check over drivetrain for sure! let you know if I find anything.

I was going to say look at the 3rd gear clutch shoes, I'm working my way into my center diff/trans tonight I hope. I thought I was hitting third, but I'm not hearing that funny sound when it get's stuck between gears when I'm turning anymore. I'm going to add wieght to the shoes since it's worked for others before.
