alcarafa-

31g converts to 1.1 oz.

Is this correct? If so, that is a tad heavier than I want to go. I'd like to find .5 oz cloth.

Yes, but don't forget that's 1.1 oz per square meter! You'd have to convert the meter to yard (or whatever oz per ?unit)

so it is something like 1.1 oz / 1 sq.meter = x oz/ 1 sq.yard

The 48 g/m^2 cloth translates to 1.5 oz/yd^2 cloth - good for reinforcing work (e.g., wing centers)

Brian, if you're looking for 0.5 oz/yd^2 cloth - you'd want the HK 18 g/m^2 cloth:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10905

While HK has low prices, its possible that Paul's source might provide comparable prices and larger lengths. This of course isn't always a good thing. It is nice to work with cloth that is only slightly larger than what you need. Cutting 0.5 cloth requires a delicate hand lest you end up with a mess of the material.

So what's the plan? Paint the fuse and cover the horizontals? Perhaps paint the stab as well. I think I would paint everything including the wing center section and cover the outer wing panels. I might do that with the Calypso.

Glad to hear that you sorted out your Avatar issues.

David.

Thanks David.

I am going to check out both sources. Paul has given me a couple of good options to look at.

The plan...

A couple of things. 1st... We totalled my daughter's airplane. It's life was short and sweet, but you chalk these things up to the learning curve. Sometimes in training, your student is put into a position that no matter what you have or do as a trainer, you cannot fix it, or prevent it. We were flying SLOOOW passes to set up the landing process. It stalled out above some trees at a distance, and I think you can figure out the rest.

So we need to get another bird in the air for her.

2nd... My SK!

I have been so indecisive about this because I am so eager to get her in the air. Here is what I hope the final plan is:

I will follow Mike's (8178) lead and glass the fuse and vertical. I will monokote the horizontal and wing. I'm pretty sure I'll just cover the whole wing.

Brian

P.S. To Jeff: [sm=wink_smile.gif]

I'll get to this tomorrow. (Yes, the big brown Santa Truck arrived today with all kinds of AMAZING treasure!)

Hi Brian.

How's the finishing work going? Good time of year for glassing and Monokoting. Any pictures you want to share?

ummm... I mounted a servo!

I really need to finish this before I move on. I am doing a little at a time.

I have mounted a Hitec 82mg servo for the steering linkage for a more direct drive to the front wheel. It will (hopefully) eliminate the bind in the linkage that was being absorbed by the rudder servo.

I need to get copper wire to solder the 2 elevator pushrods together before I can button up the bottom of the fuse. I'll have this done this weekend. Very minor stuff.

I need to redo bulkhead 2 to accept the wing dowels securely, redo the wing fillets on the fuselage, finish sand, fill any rash that heat and water won't fix, then balance it and cover it.

I want the airplane... just disappointed in my craftsmanship at this point. Slows me down. No one will notice anything when it is finished and put together though.

No new pictures as of yet.

Brian,
I did the same thing for the steering on my Sun Fli. Works (worked) great.
Sounds like you could be covering this weekend?

Don't get too down on yourself when things don't go right on a build. Each plane will be better than the next. I consider myself the forever student. That's why I post build threads. - Helps me learn from the more experienced gentlemen in this forum.

This won't be happening on my Escape. I am pre-planning EVERYTHING!

I want to draw out the servo and rod install to scale for it before I ever put knife to wood.

I'll only use my time proven building methods and follow R_G's UFO foam core prep too.

I started work on my Super Kaos again today in earnest.

I have the wing fairings completed. I used ZPoxy finishing resin and microballoons. I am happy with the results.

I have also started fairing in all the stabs to fair them into the fuse.

I will be ordering .5oz glas and glassing the fuse and using koveral on the wing. Even if it ends up heavy this will be a good learning curve for my Escape and it will still fly well... but I don't anticipate many troubles.

I am close now. Just need to open up the front to install the steering servo and adjust my linkages for the air kit.

Finishing work is all that is going on now! I'll be flying this this year for sure. (I have a TF contender to putz with as well.. should be fun.)

Itching to get at my Escape, but 1st things 1st.

Yay!

This must mean you're finished your daughter's RCM Trainer for next season.

R_G- Got Pics?
Well... Things have gotten ugly and I think I'll wait until I am closer to the primering stage.... [] After your UFO, I am embarrased to post any pics. The cleanest builds I have ever seen are yours and Mike's (8178).

This must mean you're finished your daughter's RCM Trainer for next season.

Jim
We aren't going to build another RCM trainer soon. It was WAY TOO much airplane for her to handle. (I had a lot of fun with it and had a hard time giving her back the sticks.... does that make me a bad dad?)

A member of our club gave us a GREAT deal on an Eagle 50 trainer. We are stripping it down to fix a few minor details, replace the windows, and recover it. She will fly that next season at our SPMRC club. (I have a Bridi engineered Telemaster 40 kit NIB waiting for the day my son is old enough to work on airplanes with me. Excited about that!)

My focus is on finishing the SK and my contender.

This next season out to be a lot of fun!

Pictures....

I have seemed to fix the steering linkage issue with a permanent servo mount. I have to decide on my radio now. Do I stick with my 9C futaba on ch 44, or purchase my new radio? I am thinking my best bet to get it in the air this year is to stick with what I have.

So I need to butcher the nose just one more time to adjust the steering with the radio on and then it will sit until mid spring to prep with wood sealer, glass, koverall the wing, and paint, and set up the internal goodies!

Until then I get to focus on finishing a TF Contender, my daughter's Eagle 50 rehab, finding the right parts for my Escape (just scored another big find for the Escape) and some much needed housework!

Nice work! I've been motivating myself to build one of those Beauties Once I get my shop in order, that's my first "non ARF" build.

Be sure to fix the TE of the rib templates. They are not wide enough to fit the wing saddle properly. Other than that, It is a great build.

Retracts for you as well?

Here we go!

I have decided on Monokote as I am in a hurry to have the Super Kaos flying before the SPMRC Pattern Primer on May 12 here in Minnesota! So please forgive me as I wanted to fiberglass it... but here we are.

I am liking it so far... [8D]

Opinions?

I sure do miss flying the Joe Bridi Advanced Trainer with my daughter...
