While all you guys are here ...a question . In getting ready for my radio installation , on the UFO I noticed that the Elevator has two pushrods . Is the normal plan for two servos with ''Y'' harness ? Never dealt with this before . thanks for any guidance in this area .

I used a forked pushrod and a single servo in my classic patternships. The much smaller control throws used did not require all that much power/thrust from the servos, except for the rudder. Even then, a single high torque/high speed servo with pull/pull does a terrific job. I'm talking about classic patternships, not turnaround ships.

Would like to find an EU-1 or 1a. Try to build my Curare 20,40, and 60 nitro, and a 20 converted to electric. Will try my best to get them done around work, jet rallies, and my 4 year old grandson who love planes, trains and vroom vrooms (rc cars)

Hydro - Here's some make up and pre-installation picture's, two different plane's. These are taken from build threads here on RCU by Crankpin. Forgot to re-size, saw this after posting, this is an edit line.

Lakeland. Right now, as far as I know. If I can get this Focus Sport finished, airborne, trimmed, I should be good to go. I have one construction project for my daughter's business to finish. Your pushrod situation, has to be a split from a single servo, if there are two rod's going to the split elevator, would be a first for me to see. Rudder a single pushrod, or cable's?

I'll be flying a Hanger 9 Phoenix 7 until I can find a kit to build. I'd love to find an Auroura or Phoenix 8 kit. The EU-1A reproduction kits are also very tempting.

Crank,
I like the idea of building a plane and covering and painting it in a unique color scheme. I LOVE the H9 Phoenix 7 ARF. It's the best engineered and built ARF I've ever seen, but since it's an ARF, it looks like every other H9 P-7 out there. I may change my mind, especially if vintage kits keep going for as much as the last P-8 that showed up on "the bay" did. I dropped out when it went over $300. And, I've been told the 8 was the best of the series.

Finish Bridi DirtyBirdy 40. Plan on tri-gear retracts with either Rossi 45 or 53 with Jettstream exhaust. Then order and build Blujay DB 60 with AXE Rossi 60 LSwith Jettstream and retracts. Anyway, those aremy plans and I'm stickingwiththem, at least for now. Cheers.

Yes that was me Brian. The St Croix meet is a regular turnaround pattern meet, though. It is a yearly event and I am sure they will have it again the third weekend in July.

1. Continue flying the new Vertigo II. Only 5 flights so far, there remains much discovery and trimming.
2. P-7 ARF.
3. Vertigo II restoration project.
4. (Not shown) Vertigo II plug preparation and molds.

Twinhydro,
Unless it's highly modified that's not a UFO. The stab has no anhedral and the wing is too high in the fuselage. The UFO was not really designed for rear exhaust engines although it would be possible to do with a lot of extra work. Looks like it could be a Deception or maybe a [link=http://www.bridiairplanes.com/hangar/xlt.html]Bridi XLT[/link], but I'm leaning more towards the Deception.

The XLT and Escape are very similar planes. The UFO evolved into the XLT and the Deception evolved into the Escape.
This is my information about the evolution of these designs others can comment here.
I’d say it’s an Escape Twinhydro, seeing the stab without anhedral and no tip on the stab, with full length elevator.
You wing also should have no wing tips with full length ailerons to the end of the wings.
XLT’s very similar plane but stab with anhedral and tips, Wings also with tips.
Looks Good[sm=shades_smile.gif]

That’s Sullivan hardware in the plane (Solid steel Rod Type) part#S511 or S519.
I assume the builder was planning to connect the two elevator pushrods in the fuse into a single rod to the servo.
I’ve done this similar installation with the Sullivan solid hardware.
Hopefully the builder secured the red outer tubes within the fuse.
Good Luck with the installation.

Pitstop , thanks for the feedback like so many others . I will zone in on this rigging shortly while i start the final install of servos and radio gear . Thinking of a new raido setup for this aircraft that has model memory . I have{ 4} - 3 PK 'S for my boats and really enjoy the setup flexibility of the computer style radios although i have never used one for an aircraft yet . Recomendations for the budget minded are welcome as well !

Nice collection there, Robert. Tell us more of your need for a Magnum rod replacement.

30 minutes into the break-in of this engine, I noticed a growing pool of silver oil accumulating under nose (exhaust). I shut the engine down, and discovered the front bearing had bit the dust. The plug was shot, no surprise there. This was a Thursday night, and maiden flight was scheduled for Saturday. Efforts to find bearings on Friday were without fruit, so I bought another ($99) engine to cannibalize for parts. I was determined to fly the airplane the next day!
The semi- broken in top end was transferred to the new case/lower end (plus a new plug) and another 30 minutes run time on the ground, then the first two flights on the airplane. The plug element was broken after the second flight. The bearings have since been replaced with higher quality bearings from Boca bearings.
After this, I was losing a plug per flight. Examination of the plugs under magnification revealed that the coils were broken about 1 turn from the end of the plug. The engine continued to run until shut down in each case.
The top end was exibiting the BZZZZZZZZ sound indicating a loose con-rod. Two things will blow plugs like this- the mechanical vibration from a bad con- rod, and pre-ignition, usually due to an excessive compression ratio.
Last Friday, I scavenged the con- rod from my parts engine. I also checked for the correct number and thickness of the head shims from both engines (OK) and measured the height of the squish band on the head relative to the liner mating surface. I found the heads to vary by .005". The head that I was running protruded .005" further into the cylinder than the other head, so I swapped heads as well. For reference, the head shims are .005" thick.
Since I changed two variables, I cannot say which one was the culprit in the early plug failures, or if it was a combination of the two defects, but I was able to put 6 flights (1 hour flight time) on the engine yesterday without incident. The plug is still good.
