CA Models Eclipse
Anyone,
I just picked up a CA Models Eclipse kit from a friend, and now I could use your help.
Does anyone have any documentation on this plane? I could use a set of, or at least copies of the instructions.
Looking forward to your help,
Steve
Photo is a pic from a computer search, but is the plane.

Try camodel direct, ask Marcelo, maybe he still has it. Also, you post your questions in the pattern forum, many people have that plane still, I know of build thread but in Argentina, lots of pictures.

Don't remember the cg off hand. I could probably search for it. Pretty standard to set the motor 1 to 1.5 degree downthrust, wing +.5, stab 0. I would put in gator adjusters on the wing, and a adjustable stab though.....

Oh yea, can the Eclipse be flown in Classic Pattern?

Mind you, that doesn't mean it can't be flown in certain events. It might be accepted in CPA, not sure, but definitely not in SPA - the cutoff date for SPA is 1975.

No it can't. But it can be a really fun plane. I made mine Electric. Was a great plane!

About 10 years ago I practiced pattern with a couple of friends who competed. I started with a Summit III with a Hanno 61 and a tuned pipe, and then I thought I moved up to a Finesse, but discovered my Summit flew better. I did try competition, but the travel requirements were too great, so I practiced pattern with my friends for fun.
The disciplines of Pattern flying assisted me with smoother operations, and those disciplines carried over to my scale Warbirds. However now I want to fly a Pattern plane again. My plan is to put my Evolution 26cc gas on it.
Thanks for everyone’s help.

Steve,
do you recall anything unusual about getting your Summit III to balance with the Hanno and pipe? Others in the forum (Jeff and Chris) are getting an SIII ready for flight with a YS long stroke I believe which should be of comparable weight to the Hanno. Apparently they are having one heck of a tail heavy plane - close to 2 lbs in the nose being required, and, its built with conventional gear with mains in front of the CG. Just wondered if you might have some wisdom to share on it. BTW, was yours covered or painted? 1/16" balsa skin covered wing and tail cores?

My Summit weighed in less than 11 pounds and flew like an arrow. I balanced it as recommended, and do not recall the need for excessive nose weight.
Now keep in mind, I was flying Futaba 9202 servos, a 6V 5 AA cell flight pack, and mechanical retracts. The equipment was also installed during assembly based on balance needs.
Hope this helps.

Steve,
thanks, yes it does. Actually their model is around 11 lbs as well but with the 2 lbs of nose weight. All the equipment sounds to be installed as it ought to. They placed the fuel tank over the CG which allows them to place the battery even further forward behind the firewall. Anyhow, it's their model so I'll leave it at that - just thought you might have some ideas. I think they are using a large battery back as well.

Okay, you guys had me reminiscing today. I found a couple of photos of my Summit.
David, to answer your remaining question, the wings and stabs were monokote, and the fuselage was painted.
My flying buddy to the right in the photo is Raiko Potter. He was also my Pattern coach.

Say is the Typhoon allowed in Classic Pattern. Although these photos were taken 10 years ago, my friend in this photo still has this plane. I started to buy it , but ended up buying the Eclipse from him.
I have a trivia question for everyone:
I discovered a pattern plane I had before the Summit, but I, or anyone else could ID it. It had an Enya 45 on it, fiberglass fuselage, and sheeted wings. I kind of remember sticking a 60 on it at some point. The plane is the blue and white one.

Mr. Steve
"The CG on this model (33-35%) should be taken from the top surface of the wings, on the wing tube."
I can send the Eclipse instructions manual to you in word format (.doc). Please e-mail me: [email protected]
