Man, those are some mean looking engines! Pure muscle - good old Ferrari tradition style. As ridiculous as it sounds, these are the things that make me feel proud to have an Italian passport (among others). The mother land can produce the mother load!
I'd almost like to build a transparent pattern bird just to show off the power guts! I'm going to have to have me one of them brutes...
Nice gear on that new Boot Dave!

Thanks Dave. Interesting fact on the -13! Do model engines get a model year like cars now?
If you use e-flites, the collective wisdom on the forum is to mount it with some sort of viration damping, like a piece of rubber between the mount and the retract, and also silicon the wire leads into the PCB. They were not designed for the vibration of glow and many have bad them fail within a few flights, particularly the nose gear.

Huang,
Thanks for the info on the E flight Retracts, I found out about this after I had purchased them. My buddy Ralph White had a set on his Dirty Birdy and his nose gear did just what you said, he had to replace it with a mechanical RT with its own servo..
I have cut some rubber pads to go under the mounting lugs on the nose gear.
There is nothing that bothers me more than a gear up landing. As for the 13 on the motor, that was my WAG to what it means !

I couldn't help myself and ordered one of the purple headed brute this morning, but I'm hoping you can help me out. Do you, by chance know the very helpfull man who answers the phone associated with the website? I know it's a silly question, but after I finished my payment for the motor with the gentleman, I opened my email and found my order confirmation. It was only then, that I realized that the gentleman answered the phone 6:00am this morning, local time. I just wanted to apologize for calling so dang early.................[X(] I feel like an idiot for calling so early, but I must have missed the location of the motors. Can you help me out?
I should be getting my motor on Friday. Now all I need is to find a plane to put it in..................................

Take care,
David

David,
I talked to Buddy after you had purchased your motor and he was quite amused that some one would be up that early to buy a Purple Head Monster !!! His name is Willam Shores and is the owner of SMT Distributing. Buddy (as we call him) is a very nice guy and will answer the phone 24/7 if he is awake
He said you could call him @ the same number and would be glad to help you out
Take a look at his New Web site as it still under construction @ www.smtdistributing.com
He told me today that he is working on some Airplane /Engine combo.
O yeah I agree with David Dox about the Arrow 800 /Bootlegger or Brushfire All good choices for this motor ..

Hey David & Dave,
I like the suggestions and I can see where it wouldn't be difficult to install the engine and pipe in the airplanes you sellected. Of the three you selected, I like the looks of the Bootlegger the best. The first plane that popped into my mind when I bought the engine was the EU1A, but I'm beginning to wonder if the new Nova Rossi R91F would not be a better choice for this plane. Anyhow, like I've said before, along with the EU1A, the Aurora and the Atlanta are my favorite classic pattern planes. Unfortunately, I don't know if it would be possible to shoehorn my new motor into the small nose of either of these planes. I'm not certain, but I think finding the right header for this combination will be difficult for either of these airplane / engine combinations too.
So, David O., when are you going to get one of these purple headed monsters?..................................
Dave P., thanks for all of your help as well. I got an email from Buddy a while ago, but I have not had a chance to reply to it yet. I'm glad to know he is such an understanding person. I certainly would not be if somebody called me at 6:00am and woke me up.........................[>:] BTW, I've been to his website. I filled out the order form on the website, but I had to call him to pay for the motor.
Keep the suggestions coming. What do you guys think about a Mach 1 as a possible home for the engine?
Take care Fella's,
David
